People Express HNL-LAX?

Sat Mar 18, 2006 11:59 am

Hello all...

Just looking at another website that shows People Express's January 1987 flight schedule operating flights PE 23/PE 24 on a 747 EWR-LAX-HNL/HNL-LAX-EWR. I did not realize PE ever operated scheduled service to HNL. Does anyone have any info on this?

Don't recall ever seeing a PE LAX-HNL flight. Got a link to the website? I'd be curios to see it myself.

Anyways did PE not get purchased by CO in late 1986??

PE however did for a year or so operate charters from LAX to Tahiti on a regular basis and very well could have had a couple to Hawaii, but as I said I don't recall any scheduled service.

People Express did not operate to HNL. Nov 86 was the last pure People Express timetable, after that some Continental flights were added since Continental had purchased PE hence the HNL service being listed.

Prior to the sale to Texas Air, PEOPLExpress was going to add HNL. It never materialized, but there were plans.

We operated the charters for Princess Cruise Lines. It was a big departure from our normal operations. For some reason the charters where allowed to interline the baggage at LAX which was not part of the normal operation. I remember spending many hours tracking down missorted baggage. The crews loved the trips because of the layovers in PPT and HNL. The first couple of arrivals from PPT were comical working with customs. I remember we took a 90 minute delay on one of the first flights, because of some confusion over whether customs had released the 747 so we could clean it and fuel it for the normal flight to EWR.

This was the site where I found that info:

If you click on the link for January 1987 timetable, that is where I saw it.

Thanks!
