As far as I know they have a couple of 737-300s, YV-1178C and YV1007. Don't know about 737-500s or 737-200s. The awaited 767-300ER has a new registration: YV1006, according to http://www.ch-aviation.ch . This could mean that the aircraft has finally left the desert, but I'm not sure about it.

Conviasa's website doesn't give much information. I guess we'll have to wait for news or somebody else who can give us more information about them.

As I know the 767 is still in the desert - thats a wrong information from our B767-editor. Sorry for that!

Are you sure about the two B732 and and single B735 of Conviasa? Could the 732 are from Avior or Rutaca, or are they in full Conviasa colors?

The fleet of Conviasa is 2 DHC-7, 2 B737-300 and the Air Europa A340-200. More B737, ATR42 and the 767 to come.

Do any of these Venezuelan airlines produce printed timetables?

If anyone can get hold of Venezuelan timetables for me (Conviasa, Rutaca, Avior, Laser, Aserca, etc.), I am willing to pay US$10 each plus postage costs. If you are not sure of what kind of timetable I want, you can take a look at www.timetableimages.com for an idea.

AF temporarily downgraded CCS to A343-service. The route is set to go back to B744 in mid-June.

Looking forward to further monitoring Conviasa's performance on its CCS-BOG route. The airline has experienced several downturns in the route, and while they did relatively well on the last year's-end season, those planes were going out with abnormally light loads ever since the season ended, especially compared to its competitors. Expecting to see its performance after having increased its frequencies to daily.

also I saw two Air Canada A319

One AC A319 would be normal as I think the scheudle to YYZ has been upgraded to daily but it seems strange that there would be 2 on the ground unless one went technical and they had to send a backup aircraft. I can't think of why there would be 2 there--is it possible it was another airline's A319 with a somewhat similar looking livery?

Hey your not my enemy, you're Chavez enemy....! he he just kidding.. That's so you cant see how hypocrite our "beloved" president is.....

Regarding the Conviasa new planes news I spoke with someone that works for them and there are very strong rumours about a very big expansion both national and international maybe all of this new planes are just the first step... or maybe is just hot air as it normally happens with this "rumours".
Still they already announce about 10 new destinations for this year only national and Canada and New york internationally.

I guess not! Not when they have their little airline wet-leasing planes for which contracts have been being paid for with PDVSA oil revenues flying around with our flag! Big grin

He didn't accuse us of being an imperialist country, actually, he accused us of being the puppy of the imperialist country. It was nothing but a personal vendetta for the time when we kindly and politely asked his best friend Castro to leave the party (MTY summit) that we were hosting. Although we thought that we had already resolved the issue with the conniving Castro, as usual, Chavez wanted to show that if we want to mess with one, we were also messing with the other! Just hot air!

This is getting largely off topic, but I can't help it, I gotta say something about Hugo.

The main Brazilian weekly magazine (Veja) came out on Sunday and one of the reports is about how the criminality rates are soaring in Caracas. According to the report, Caracas is now the most violent city in South America. They say that this is largely due to the fact that the police is run by Chaves' colleagues, and that they won't do anything to stop organized crime that may be favorable to Chaves' general strategy.

Something that has occured to me. Is there even a remote chance that Chaves may do something to benefit Conviasa and thus cause damages to private owned airlines, such as Aeropostal? Can Chaves do something to say that, for example, only Conviasa may fly international routes?

That's correct. Coincidentially, the three safest counties (municipalities) in Venezuela are in hands of opposition mayors.

Quoting FMAL (Reply 31):

They are already doing that. They are flying the most popular domestic routes in Venezuela with subsidized fares in order to harm private airlines. Conviasa's goal was supposed to be an airline flying to remote and small towns that currently lack air service because they aren't profitable. Again that was pure Chavez rethoric.... that most ignorant people buy, especially Bush haters.

Quoting FMAL (Reply 31):

Thanks for the news Ghost. The thing is that the plane was bought in January 2006 but it was operated by UX to allow the crews to get their training. Now that the training is complete, they sent it to the paintshop in LIS. Conviasa has been flying to MAD for almost a month now with that A340 and codesharing with UX. Some days it says "Operated by UX" and some "Operated by Conviasa".

No, not really. Cabotage would mean that Global Air, as a Mexican airline, was selling and operating flights within Venezuela. In this case, it seems like Conviasa is just wet-leasing the planes from Global Air. I'm sure its just a wet-lease agreement for short period of time (less than a year) and thus for legal reasons unbeknown to me its registrations along with the flag must remain. Technically, this can also mean that if Conviasa wanted to start service to any city in the U.S., right now, while the Category 2 is still in effect, then it would certainly be able to do so with those two planes, until it was ready to operate its own equipment.
