CX At YVR, Questions?

Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:08 am

Well, I am scheduled for 4/18 (Tuesday) from YVR-JFK on CX888. I am very excited to fly on the 747-400 between these two cities.

Yet, this actually got me thinking about a few things. The route before was flown by an A343, then an A346 (every other day). However, now the CX838/839 was downgraded to an A343 and they never seem to bring in their A346.

What happened to this bird? Are they used on other sectors? Is it not economically viable for CX? Or is this for other reasons? Also, how many of CX's A343 are ex-SQ? Do these birds have a different configuration than some of the CX ordered birds or have they all been modified to provide the same service?

Also, does CX still have that 1x weekly Cargo service? Was it LAX-YVR-HKG or something like that?

And some people have posted on other threads, and told me that CX was considering a 3x daily service between YVR-HKG in the summer months. Is this true? Or are they planning to return their CX828 HKG-ANC-YYZ tech-stop back to YVR?

CX flies a 346 from YYZ, and I will be travelling on it next march, still a long way off. I would assume that all CX's have the same layout, but some do not have first, etc...

I do not believe so.

I doubt that they are doing that, I just don't see enough traffic, and I still believe that they are keeping YYZ-ANC-HKG.

To the contrary, CX flights are very strong ex YVR and they will be adding a third flight on certain days for the summer months only. There is a rumour they will also add a 4th freighter ex YVR for fall 2006. If some one out there could confirm this via the CX res system as I do not know what days.
CX code share with AA from DFW and this has helped the loads ex YVR

Is the A343 on the YVR sector a 2 class or 3 class product??

ie is it the 287 or 243 seat aircraft with new J class?

all 15 cx a343s have the new (or not so new) j class. only 5 of them have first class. thus the other 10 have increased capacity in y, but the same 30 seats in j.

Vancouver gets the 2-class A340-300s.

As for the A340-600, all year round it does the JFK non-stop service, and at the same time, it can fly to another destination, one which CX switches around. It has been YYZ, SYD, regional sectors, but at the moment it is going to London.

Yes, that is what I keep on hearing but no website shows it. I checked yvr.ca, cathay's website, travelocity, but not there. If this comes, do you think they will bring in anothre A343

YVR at one point too right? When did they fly it into YYZ?

Actually CX flies a A340-300 into YYZ daily not the A340-600. Where did you see that YYZ has been upgauged to an A346?

Cheers,

only 2-class A343 is deployed on YYZ.
F/C is not even available on this route so why would they put a 3-class A346 on the route?

The 346 has not been scheduled into YYZ, but it has been there before on CX829....and yes you are right, it has also been to YVR.

It has been scheduled on every other days for quite a time. But I remember seeing them last October and they suddenly disappeared.........

Cathay has 26 active A340 with among them 3 A346, the rest being A340-313X.
B-HXM/N/O are three ex-Singapore Airlines birds. They have the same interior design than CX's others A343s.

The CX A340-600s are being deployed on the daily JFK run (CX830/831) as well as to LHR a few days in a week.

I was wondering with all these posts about making the A346 HGW, does CX have to limit the cargo to do the HKG-JFK trip? On the other hand, does CO still fly their 777-200ER on the EWR-HKG trip with no problem?
