Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:47 pm

A terrific article on the Aviation Now website about the GEnX powerplant's development, GE's early composite research and where the technologies are going...

Wow, up to 80,500lbs thrust. It makes you wonder how far they'll be able to push it... does this make longer range 787-10s more fesiable?

This was a great read... sounds like an amazing engine... I can't wait for RR point of view in the Trent 1000 engine developments.

Interesting how, like RR, GE was also questioning to exit the engine business due to poor performance. Imagine the industry w/o GE and RR? Pratt would have been dominant today... who would have replaced them two? Maybe Snecma would have filled their shoes?

How does this line up with Widebodyphotogs take on the GEnX as outlined in 787-10 Specifications (by Iloveboeing Apr 14 2006 in Civil Aviation)

Just about right on the money, and if the info in the article is precise, it would seem as though actual SFC are a few ticks below our projections...Very encouraging for 787 performance projections.

This wont hurt their chances with QF who are yet to make an engine decision. This assumes that the engine will meet the needs of the 787-9HGW.
