SQ And 380

Thu Apr 27, 2006 5:12 pm

Is Singapore Airlines still on track to receive its first 380 by the end of 2006? Does anyone have news about which flight will it be used for?

Officially yes, and it's first flight should be SIN-SYD followed by SIN-LHR when it returns to Changi.

Sounds great - anyone told SQ already, that the big SINGAPORE AIRLINES between the decks are looking UGLY?

I am quite confident SQ get 'advice from experts' on a daily basis.  Wink

totally disagree - there is no ugly plane, there is paint scheme that does fit to an aircraft or not.

The livery u saw on A380 was just temporary for demo during Asian Aerospace on second A380 (same jet that wore Emirates livery but it will be delivered finally to Ethiad Airways, its rightful owner after the testing and confirmation of certification of A380).

The real A380 jets for SIA are still undergoing final touches. First one is expected to touch down at Changi in Nov/Dec. The first flights on SQ A380 would begin in Dec. First cities are Sydney and London.

Final Touches?? Haven't seen any SQ A380's in final assembly yet. Are they being prepared in a secret final assembly hall somewhere??

They're probably in a hangar, out of the reach of photographers/spotters...

I read on here ages ago that the first SIN-LHR flight was 30th April or May. I had that on my calender for ages, but its clearly not on the 30 April, and probably not on the 30 May...

SIN_SQ, really December? Great...

God, I'm sorry, but that is one ugly aircraft. And yes, aircraft can be ugly! I wish Airbus had taken a more sleek design to the jet, especially around the nose. Then again, the stretch version may look more proportional.

All said, I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to fly on it!

I've seen some paint schemes that make it look stunning. In a good way. But in white, I'm not a huge fan of it. I do kind of like it in the patchwork green scheme. Someone should adopt that as a real livery...  Smile

What is this? The airline version of Hot or Not?

It looks no worse than the 787 in its current form to me. When the A380-900 arrives (I'm sure it will at some point) we'll be a lot more impressed visually.

Can't wait to see the A380 flying into Sydney. I missed it when it came to BNE - I was working that day  Sad.

And I still think the A380 looks better than the flying sea cow - the 787! It looked ok when it was in its first incarnations on the drawing board, now it just looks ugly!

Any news on the interior SQ is planning for the A380? Haven't they been doing some fairly extensive (and secretive) market research with their staff and frequent fliers?

SQ will reportedly introduce new F and C class seats more or less simultaneously with the B777-300ER and the WhaleJet. Yes, there has been extensive market research under NDA with some of their PPS club members based in SIN.

I wouldn't be so sure. Airlines obviously care what their planes look like. Otherwise they wouldn't bother painting or washing them.

Painting is mainly to prevent corrosion, and cleaning is to reduce drag and also to prevent corrosion.
