BAA Announces $17.5bn LON Improvements

Thu May 04, 2006 9:18 pm

BAA have announced a 10 year $17.5bn (£9.5bn) investment program at it's 3 London airports (LHR/LGW/STN).

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/mai...heet=/money/2006/05/04/ixcity.html

Will it mean more shops or actual improvements for long suffering passengers?

Also interesting is they predict traffic at LHR/LGW/STN to rise to 166m by 2015.

The announced investment should include the proposed remodelling at LHR (new "Heathrow East" as replacement of T1&2) as well as expansion at STN (2. runway, 2. terminal).
If a 3. runway at LHR (including a "northern" terminal) is included in this money is doubtful IMO.

But the single "work packages" have been discussed here on A.net "to death".

Why is London City Airport not included in these numbers? Isn't that a BAA airport as well, and aren't they building a new terminal there?

£9.5bn is an awful lot of money.

Methinks the new Heathrow terminal is going to be impressive.
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

City is privatley owned by Irish Millionaire Dermot Desmond.
Irish Airline Cityjet, who use the airport have aircraft EI-DDE
DDE = Dermot Desmond Express...as he uses the airline to fly to/from Dublin.

How are passengers at LHR going to increase from 67.4m in 2005/06 to 85.0m in 2015/16 without more slots?

Based on the stated maximum of 480,000 aircraft movements, the current pax/movement figure is 140.6, which will increase to 177.1 in 2015/16.

Is this feasible? There are an awful lot of narrowbody flights going on at LHR at times of the day when international carriers would kill to be able to land a B744 or, eventually, an A380.

The best way to deal with capacity constraints is by auctioning off 2 to 3 year rights to each slot.
