Hey guys,
Monday I start working at Miami International Airport. It is a summer program for students between the ages of 16-21 sponsored by the aviation department. I just have a few questions:
1. Do i get an airport ID?
2. They said I would work in "Land Side operations" what's that?
I go on monday for payroll processing and such, I look forward to sharing my experiences with you this some

Every airport is divided into two basic sections:
1. Land side: this is the aera to which the public has free access, such as the arrival and departure halls etc...
2. Air side: this is the area which can only be accessed by authorised airport employees and passengers with a flying ticket. Every time you want to go from land side to air side, you will have to go through customs (passing through a metal detector and an ID-check).
Some airports require an airport ID for both land side and air side, some only for air side.
The apron of an airport is always air side, so unfortunately for you, you won't get to walk between the aircraft.

Hello.
Well I spoke to the program coordinator today and she told me that monday I go in for Payroll Processing as well as a Security course (to get ID) and a tour of the airport. iM looking forward to posting up the 411 on my new job.

If you were coming to work at MSY, and....
1.airport ID)......you required unescorted SIDA access, you would need an ID, but you would go through FAA-approved SIDA and driver training before you got that ID.
2. Landside ops departments vary from airport to airport. MSY's Landside dept. is responsible for the parking garage, taxis, limos, shuttles, basically everything from the front doors forward. Other airport's depts. cover the entire terminal.
We're having an intern start with us shortly, as well, and have had numerous ones in the past.
