RE: A380 Routes

Thu May 25, 2006 8:27 pm

LAX and JFK would most probably be the main USA gateways using the A-380, especially to Asia. ORD, SFO could be other cities as well. Destinations in Japan, China which are in very heavy demand and have limited slots right now would benefit the most by the use of the A-380. AUK and SYD to LAX would also make sense for the use of the A-380.
Generally, I see the A-380 to be mostly used to connect major hubs in the world and Asia and Australia, pax and freight.

QTR-LHR, QTR-FRA, QTR-HKG, QTR-BKK

It's DOH for Doha not QTR! QR will only have two A380's on order, both will be used for LHR flights only!

Looking by the list I would not disagree. Overall worldwide cities with most A380 traffic going to that airport will be LHR,LAX,JFK. HKG,NRT will be the other players to receive their share of the whalejet.

Looks like LAX is going to be a hotbed of A380 activity which poses a follow up question....which airport will have the most A380 flights and how many differant airlines with an A380 to that airport? LAX, JFK, LHR??

I've heard that it will be LHR, and that one flight out of eight will be on a 380 (!!!), personally I think that sounds ALOT, but I'm sure it's possible. I guess the airlines will be:

EK, EY, QR, SQ, TG, MH, QF, VS, KE(?)...

If they order 380:
BA, CX...and others

According to the local media, EK plan to serve MAN with an A380, although it's never been confirmed officially.

Never mind the local media - I do know that EK plan to operate the A380 into MAN eventually, and the approrpriate stands are being built because of it.

No chance - not on their leisure routes out of MAN - they'll just get some of the 747s that get displaced from the other routes out of LHR or LGW.

I know LH are intending to use the 380 to DEL and almost certainly that means BOM as well given its greater constraints.

Is AMS going to see the A380 in the future? If so, which airline do you think?

Malaysia Airlines. See reply #18.

MAS/KLM currently operates 2x daily joint-services between KUL/AMS, all on 747.

Nope, MEL/SYD-LAX only, until about the time aircraft number 5 or 7 arrives. From then you may see SYD/MEL-LHR via SIN, BKK or HKG. Not FRA, NRT unlikely, execpt maybe for route proving flights.

No way to see an AF A380 in YYZ, or ORD, or DEL or MIA !

AF will send its first A380s to YUL, JFK, NRT, LAX. Then, PEK, & SIN are next in line
