they have one gate at MDW that is shared with Frontier. There is no big bonanza...

All customers booked on TedSM and United Express(R)
flights through Midway after Sept. 5 will be
accommodated on O'Hare flights.
Quoting 7E72004 (Reply 14):
I also like how the affected employees will "...have the option to apply for positions at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport..."
Quoting Sphealey (Reply 6):
I am trying to squeeze some dim memories from my tired brain, but I seem to remember that back in the early 1980s when the original Midway Airlines and Southwest were just getting started at MDW that American and United each had one check-in counter active (out of 30 each) and listed something like 1 flight per week. Can anyone confirm this?
Quoting Cubsrule (Reply 24):
MDW is a funny place for legacies. It seems that they can only run service there to large cities with a fair to high amount of O&D. DTW and MSP work for NW because of the O&D to those places, but MEM has been tried and has not worked. US hasn't been able to make CLT work despite TZ's apparent ability to do it and the success of FL (perhaps it's a little too early to judge that). DL has cut service severely, back to just ATL service on EV even though the shuttle 738s seemed to be a good competitive antidote to FL. The only smaller city left with legacy service is CLE, and CO is the only carrier whose MDW schedule approaches what they have at ORD.

First AA, now UA. No surprises though. With a mega-hub across town, they are better off devoting resources there IMO
Quoting LGBFltTrainer (Reply 27):
Oh, Oh...better watch out...
AA & UA will probably demand that Midway be shut down & have FL/WN move to O'hare...
Note: tongue is firmly planted in cheek, in case anyone is thinking about taking this seriously...
Quoting AirFrance (Reply 30):
Also why would they have O'Hare and Midway? They are not that far apart and UA has the hub at O' hare.
Quoting Wjcandee (Reply 31):
NW has had for years what I think is a sensible strategy: if you have enough stroke at a hub like MSP or DTW to do mostly o/d traffic and some conx out of MDW, just quietly go ahead and fly it, with appropriate equipment and volume, year in and year out, without regard to trying to "crush the competition".
