Liverpool Airport (LPL) News

Thu Jun 08, 2006 9:18 pm

We have one if these threads for Manchester, so we ought to have one for Liverpool too!

So here we go:

Flyglobespan has announced that it will be starting a daily scheduled service to Prague from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

This decision comes less than two weeks after flyglobespan announced it was to make Liverpool their next UK base with a daily service to the sunshine isle of Tenerife and insist there could be more routes to come. Flights commence in November.

No chance!

We'll probably see LBA or DSA before we see LPL

LPL will probably always be short haul, while MAN picks up what long haul it can from airlines that won't be influenced by BA.

On the charter front, there is to be an SSH flight with ThomsonFly next summer and possibly a based aircraft for Airtours (was mentioned on an LPL forum a while ago)

Flybe made the mistake of assuming 1 x daily on the Scottish routes represented sufficient frequency. Business pax stuck with MAN or the train. A shame, as I think there could have been potential for EDI and GLA to LPL with a better schedule. Maybe they'll re-consider it in the future?

Why there is no charters to MIR from LPL ?

I'm not sure who else might be in a position to re-launch EDI and GLA. EZY have never bothered, and I doubt Flyglobespan will be interested, even though they are setting up a new base at LPL. GSM's domestic routes to date have been a dismal failure. Perhaps an FR service (LPL-PIK) is the best which can be hoped for?

Public transport from Glasgow/Edinburgh is very limited indeed, i think it is only a national express coach ( no direct train links) . LPL- PIK could work but it could be advertised as manchester west!!

Emerald Airways would have been a good candidate when they were still flying and operating passenger flights under their own brand

LS's MAN-LGW run is on low loads at the moment, had 6 pax on board the other day. Plus it is operated by Flightline, who's 146 was used as ad-hoc work at MAN, so Jet2 could free up a 737 to move to BLK and NCL.
So can't see LPL-LGW working!

LPL-LGW might work, given that BA also offer up to 7 daily departures from MAN on the route. I find it incredible that MAN has so many services to LHR, LGW, LCY and STN on 6 different carriers yet VLM have reduced the only LPL - LON service to just three a day.

Nope. Flybe serve Belfast City, Exeter, Norwich and Southampton from MAN.

Jersery and Guernsey are not served from MAN. They require a change of aircraft in Southampton.

Flybe currently operate 15 daily services from Manchester to BHD/EXT/NWI/SOU

Not true. Anything past The Wirral Scousers consider long haul! Holyhead is positively the equivalent of travelling to the Caribbean!

EXT-MAN was started at the expense of LPL-EXT. At the same time BE halved LPL-BHD service from four to two times a day

I always think it's so funny when you hear famous scousers (Cilla Black, Jimmy Tarbuck, The Beatles) talking about how wonderful Liverpool is. As soon as they had enough money they moved away from the place!
