Emirates, Qatar are definetly a strong possibility.

If I had to put down money, it would be SQ for up to 20 787-10s (exercising their options) and EK with upwards of 50 787-9s and/or 787-10s. QR is also a possibility for upwards of 50.

I think the 787-10 would have to be formally launched/offered before they could be bought  Wink.

And Farnsborough would be the perfect place to do it.  Wink

The B787-10 isn't likely to be launched until later this year. I agree with you about EK's intention, but the B787-10 won't be ready to launch by Farnborough.

I don't see QR and LH going with the 787, these two are firmly in the Airbus camp, QR is already committed and LH hasn't ordered Boeing commercial jets in years, I'm not sure they ever will again despite what they say. Like IB, AA and CO, they are pretty well locked up by their preferred provider.

Yet even with their all-Aoirbus fleet, QR just ordered 20 777s when they could have had 20 A346s at much better pricing to go with the 4 they already have on order. Why not take the 20 A346s from Airbus, even if you just lease them for a decade, and then transition directly to the A370? Yes the 777 is better, but Airbus would have made sure the A346s ended up cheaper to operate via pricing and financing.

And the A350 they ordered looks to be replaced by a larger plane which, at the upper end, will compete directly with the 20 777s they just ordered. It could be QR wants a smaller widebody, and the 787-3 would replace their ten A300s and one A310, the 787-8 would handle their 14 A332s and 1 A342 (though availability will be tight), and the 787-9 would cover their 6 A333s. QR could use the monies earmarked for the 4 A330s and 2 A380s to expand their A319/A320/A321 narrowbody fleet.

QR is already committed

...but they're not happy with the A350 as it is right now and are seriously looking at canceling the order and ordering 787s. Do a search and you'll find out why.

LH hasn't ordered Boeing commercial jets in years, I'm not sure they ever will again despite what they say.

But, then again, LH needs a replacement for its A300-600Rs, and neither the A330-200/300 nor the A350-800 fit the bill (but the 787-3 does). And LH's CEO has said repeatedly that they do not want to standardize on one aircraft manufacturer.

the last LH and LH cargo Boeing orders were in 98 and LHs was for a 744. given the last passenger 744s were only ordered in 02, its not exactly light years since they ordered Boeing

I'm sorry, did I miss the order by QR for the 777s? I know they signed a LOI (or was it a MoU) last year but they haven't firmed anything up as far as I know...

Alright all, I've had to delete several posts (and suspend a few users) as they were dragging this thread off topic and deep into flamewar territory. As a result, I'm also locking the thread itself. In the future, do not "bite" on the flamebait provided by someone. Leave it alone and suggest it for deletion rather than risk suspension yourself for responding in kind.
