CO IAH-LAT Am

Sat Jun 17, 2006 6:19 am

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the loads are for CO flights from IAH-GRU, and IAH-CLO. How are those flights doing? Ive heard CLO is underperforming, and GRU is still a money maker, at least year round 764 service would lead one to believe so. Just wanted to know how those two flights are doing. Also, will CO ever start IAH-SDQ?

IAH-CLO will be reduced to 1x weekly on the slow season, the flight is just not living up to expectations. If they had done it form EWR it would be another story, but well....

IAH-GRU-GIG service in fact keep two strong markets that could explain their profitability:

1) Rio de Janeiro as a touristic and oil destination. Large number of oil business, seminars and congress. It shows high C demand.

2) Sao Paulo as a business center.

Flights are always full and friends that use this route tells me more than 50% of the plane goes to Rio de Janeiro GIG. During the high season this number is even higher.

Flight 820 actually fliest JFK-IAH-CLO so it's marketed as a NYC-CLO flight.

People prefer to take the AV service as its just stopping in MDE for like 45 minutes, and they dont have to get off the plane, clear customs and go back, and they also don´t backtack so much. If the flight was a non-stop to EWR, they would steal a lot of passengers from AV.

For what I heard, in the last couple of months loads were about 50%, not spectacular but considering fares CO charges, one would say is enough to make money.

Also I just checked seat availability for a couple of flights this week (since is peak season they are flying daily IAH-CLO) and they are full.

Anyway if CO goes 1x weekly on Fall, it will definitivelly kill the route.

For 2005, the annual LF for IAH-GRU was 79.5% the strongest of CO's South America flights. For some reason I cant locate the IAH-CLO stats.. did the route run the entire year?? As reference IAH-BOG was 70.8%.
