Did they just paint that sceme or did they pull that aircraft from the desert to cover the inter-island routes?

I saw this airplane at OAK on June 19th as I was heading back to SEA. It must've been on a delivery flight.

Very nice looking bird. The fact it's on a 732 just adds to the 'Retroness'.

Hi all! Probably my second post on A.net, but I just had to comment on this one.

Gotta say I love it! I've been waiting for a long time to finally see an Aloha 732 back in these colors. Growing up in Hawaii it was always nice to see this plane (and color scheme) at the gate. Kind of wish they'd switch the entire fleet back to these colors. Just my opinion. I mean, the current color scheme is nice, but the orange and yellow with the plumerias through the cheatline and up into the tail is a lot better (to me anyways!) Seeing this color scheme on an aircraft again brings back so many childhood memories! Now, if only Hawaiian would paint a 717 and 767 in their old color scheme, I'd be set!!

Thanks for bringing it back Aloha!!!

Oh wow what a nice looking classic Aloha paintscheme, polished metal underbelly and everything! Back in the days when the color schemes were simple and original and half of a.netters weren't even born lol

Why would an Aloha 732 be flying to SEA as a delivery flight?

First, the AA Astrojet 757. Then, the US Heritage A319s. Now, the Aloha Funbird 732... guess my dreams are coming true. Is a UA "777 Friend Ship" next?

I love the funbird!

Honestly it would be cool if all their fleet were painted this way. I really like the retro f/a uniforms. Perfect for the islands....

Fantastic - I love all these Retrojets that the likes of Aloha and US Airways are painting.

One that I would love to see is a bmi A319/20/21 in the classic BMA 1970s colours, but since they have only ever repainted one mainline aircraft in their latest colours (fact!*), I think it would be low on the priority list.

*B735 G-BVZH was repainted into the new bmi c/s back in 2001, and a few months later was the first aircraft to go to bmibaby and recieve their c/s. Since then, the only aircraft that have been repainted are the ERJ-145s of bmi regional. All other aircraft in the current bmi c/s were delivered like that.

Just go to http://www.hnlrarebirds.blogspot.com for more pictures.

BTW, the Funbird is down for maintenance. 1-1/2 days of operation and it ended up in maintenance.

Actually the Aloha titles should say Aloha airlines in black titles and painted towards the rear of the fuselage for 1969. "Funbird" was painted on the engine nacelles also in black titles.

IT'S FANTASTIC!!!!!

God I love this scheme, the best in Aloha's history, and to me a dream come true to see it flying again. Maintenance will only be temporary, the funbird is back!!!

And yes it would be fantastic for Aloha to paint their whole fleet this way, people can be appalled all they want, this livery has CLASS.  cool

Very nice! I like how some of the airlines are doing this! Now if we could start seeing more of this trend, it would be AWESOME! What a good publicity move. I would poop my pants to see an old UA paint, or even a old DL paint. Oh poopers, how about all the airlines go retro on a few birds.

WTG Aloha!!!

That would be gorgeous, c'mon United.

And as cool as that would be, a UA 777 would look even prettier the more colorful scheme used throught the 80's until early 90's.

European airlines need to paint long-haul aircraft into retrojets. They're playing it safe I guess to see the reactions and only painting short-haul planes which never even wore classic liveries.

Retro has always had more style. Things retro are now the "in thing" in the west!

He was saying that he saw the AQ 732 at OAK while HE was on the way back to SEA (the 732 was at OAK, not SEA).

On a related note, I saw the funbird departing 8L while on the way home from work this afternoon and have concluded that AQ's 732s seem to be speedracing their way up to altitude, that is to say, they appear to hit 250-300kts while at 2000-3000 ft. whereas HA's 717s appear to climb out much slower and more gracefully. Is this an optical illusion perhaps created by the 732s charcoal-like contrails?!

The cool part is that it's actually the same AIRCRAFT that wore that livery originally!

I love it, great job AQ!

The current Funbird was with LH, and not an original AQ Funbird. N832AL (c/n 23154) is a 737-230/Adv, and was built in 1985.

All of the original 732s have been sold off, retired, scrapped, or all of the above.

Airliners are not allowed to fly above 250kts at that altitude, i think the lowest altitude they can fly faster than that is 10,000ft.

Aloha had some interesting temporary paint schemes due to some lease arrangements with Southwest and United among a few. Found these pictures as examples.
