IFE On TG 744?
I'm shortly for my holiday trip FRA BKK on TG. For what I've found they fly the B744 and none of the photo's show a personal IFE system. Since Thai is one of the premium Asian carriers I hardly believe this is true. Please update me on this topic.
There's still a long way to go before all the alliances deserve a star...

I flew a TG B747 in C class a few years ago and there was no IFE. Back to SQ for me.

TG provides AVOD with 10.4" touch-screen for F and C class on the following routes. Only on routes that operated by new Airbus A340 and retrofitted B747-400.

Other than that TG provides normal PTV in F and C class except for aircraft type A300-600, B737-400, B747-300, and ATR-72.

TG will retrofit only 12 out of 18 744. That should cover all major long-haul route. The rest will either be sold as 2-class (C, Premium-Y, Y passengers sitting in F, C , Y cabin respectively) or used on short-haul flight.

The target market for TG in Y is still the low-budget mass market. This market has no particular need for IFE. They choose TG because it is cheap and don't care about anything else. Therefore TG does not have to invest in IFE in order to attract Y pax.
What TG does well and what puts its among or even above other premium Asian carriers is its cabin service. This is supported by the latest Skytrax awards (Whether these awards are representative or not is a different question).

B772ER ?? I think TG only operates "domestic" variants such as the 772A-773A.
About IFE, TG's strategy is not very clear to me !! If you put PTV on long-haul, then you put it on the whole fleet, especially if they are planing to keep their 744 !!

Thanks guys for the reactions. Since this is a family vacation we're going to fly in Y-class. I'm not really looking forward to a boring 12 hour flight.....

TG will take delivery of 6 772ER's starting later this year, so they don't have any yet but yes these will have AVOD in all classes, they will be 2 class seating 30J 262Y.

Agreed! If I was to fly AKL-BKK on a brand new A346 then hop on to a 744 with no IFE it probably wouldn't seem right, you have to be consistant weather its levels of service or IFE or whatever.

Is Thai one of the premium Asian carriers - that is a discussion in itself. Thai is a good airline, but are they in the same category as SQ or CX? I dont think so (regardless of what surverys may or may not say).....and I dont think that Thai has the same base of business travellers that some other Asian carriers have attracted.
Thai does offer a good (if not great) product, they are most certainly improving, Thai does offer some very sharp fares in their premium cabins, and Thai honestly does have different parameters than some of the other Asian carriers.....a lot of pax going to Thailand are leisure/lower budget pax who are very price sensitive.
I do agree that TG should try to standardize its product.
