B6 To SRQ, HOU, & TUS

Hey all, I just spoke to a friend at Jetblue and they said these will be annouced this week..they said its loaded into there software they use, what do you think of these cities for B6......SRQ was a surprise??????

SRQ? Not really..so many old people living there the whole city reminds me of a doctors waiting room at 8am on a Monday morning. All the children and grandchildren got to get there somehow to visit before the funeral.

SRQ and HOU both seem like great choices, but I'm not sure about TUS. B6 has problems with the transcons, due to high fuel costs. Also, I don't think TUS is a very strong O/D market from NYC or BOS. I have lived in NY for almost 20 years, and I can't recall anyone I know travelling to Tuscon. Plus B6 already serves PHX. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe TUS is a contiuation of the PHX routing? Hard to imagine it will support direct to JFK service.

I can see SRQ, B6 is all about Florida, but HOU would be trying to piss off CO and WN and JetBlue has been staying away from picking fights.

TUS? don't people drive from TUS to PHX to catch nonstop flights? Then again Dulles is only a few hours from IAD, does TUS have a large enough base that it can support this?

Has anyone heard any rumors about CMH or STL? Rumor is they are the next announcement, not the above mentioned?

When was the last time you were at SRQ, 1975?

It's a fast growing, year round city with lots of young families. Of course, being Florida, there is a higher ratio of old people, but going to the numerous shopping centers and restaurants with family, I don't see a preponderance of eldery...

I was thinking SRQ is wierd cause both Airtran and Delta stoped there daily flights to LGA. I think Airtran stopped there Daily BOS as well, though I may be mistaken.

I think your "Friend" is pulling your leg. There is no SRQ, HOU or TUC listings in the software that we use. Unless they pulled it temporarily.

How would flying from JFK piss off WN? There is 0 market share overlap.

With all due respect, just because YOU don't know anyone who has gone there doesn't mean there is no O&D market (of course, that doesn't necessarily mean your conclusion is wrong).

I know CO runs EWR-TUS non-stop seasonal (Oct-Mar). I would think if there was O&D (or Europe/northeast connctions) to support it, they would run it year-round, so I'm not quite sure what B6 is thinking here, unless they too are thinking seasonal (or for some reason, they can pull enough people from/through JFK that CO can't from/through EWR, but I find that hard to believe)

I don't see Tuscon happening in the near future..... if i recall correctly Continental has tried TUS-EWR several times and never made it work....even using the 735.

TUS-JFK is 2136 going off the great circle mapper....out of the range of jetblue's 190's (2100 according to their website)...and I don't see them being able to fill an A320 for that...

HOU would be a good addition seeing that ATA has had good success with their LGA flights...

AA used to run AUS-HOU-LGA and just recently ended the service. TZ's loads are pretty good on the HOU runs (from what I've read here?).

Sarasota - the most likely of the three....NYC-FLorida is JetBlues stregnth.

Tuscon - why? There is a limited market on this route, there must be better opportunities.

Hobby - I dont think that CO will go crazy, but ATA/WN will not be happy with this....ATA recently introduced LGA-HOU, why would JetBlue want to compete with other LCCs on this route?

And, these are all rather long routes........what happened to the new JetBlue emphasis on shorter segments to increase revenue?

The reason that DL and FL had a tough go of it at SRQ was the trashed market at TPA with $106r/t. Neither of these airlines were willing to take a bath at SRQ.

CO added additional capacity at SRQ and drew the demand into EWR.

As B6 is NY centric they will do just great at SRQ.

St. Louis-Boston/New York would cut down on my family's travel expenditure by a ton. We all fly American to LGA or BOS and it usually carries a hefty price tag, hopefully JetBlue becomes part of the equation in the near future.

DL and FL both fly to ATL from SRQ and it might have made more sense for them to connect people at ATL then to try an O&D flight. EWR-SRQ is a hub flight that has a lot of O&D, but also has regional connections.

There is always the issue of TPA being cheaper, but the prices at SRQ are coming down. There are even times on CO where I've found SRQ less expensive than TPA from LAX.

EWR-TUS is seasonal, it operates during the Winter Months. During the Summer months CO operates nonstop EWR-Albuquerque.

DL kept the Sat. only LGA-SRQ flight on an MD-88 through the end of the season this year. The daily OH flight was dropped at the end of March. I don't think the loads on the flight were very good.

I wish B6 luck at SRQ. Any new activity there is a good thing. I'm just not sure if they could make 3 daily RT's work when DL couldn't fill a 50 seat RJ out of LGA.

JetBlue could operate JFK-IAD-TUS with a 190. Great Circle Mapper says 1933 miles from IAD-TUS. Then maybe add a non-stop A-320 non-stop during the winter months from JFK on a seasonal basis.

I love CO, but competition is always a good thing. I believe that CO and TZ are the only carriers between Houston and NYC. According to the timetable, CO has 24 n/s flights (inc. 3 767s) tomorrow and TZ has 2.

See I knew I wasn't crazy. Someone at work said B6 people were in TUS a while back looking at counter space.

There is a lot of traffic to the NY area from Tucson. CO's EWR flight was full most of the time when it operates. However they said they did not make money on it...but that is CO, perhaps B6 could.

West coast cities could be a possibility. OAK would be my first guess since there are no nonstop flights currently.

Since AA pulled their one a day AUS-HOU-LGA what you listed is it IIRC.
WN has a one stop direct going up but nothing coming back (to Islip I mean)

I love CO also, but B6 could do well if they market the route and advertise around Houston.

JFK-TUS is good use of a plane that would otherwise sit on the ground. Tucson service would definitley be a redeye. However, I'm a little wary that this is actually true. I've been hearing rumours pointing towards Reno as their next West Coast redeye.

jetBlue will be announcing a new city this week, but we all already know about thier long desired service to this resort town.

Yes daily it only lasted for a few months, then dropped to a few days a week before ending in April (it started the September before). It proved to be a good celebrity spotter, carrying Bette Midler, Joan Rivers, and Susan Sarandon for example. They told us the route would not return, but of course we saw it again last holiday season (with a bigger plane thankfully!). I don't even remember how many times people told us they wished CO would fly to JFK instead...

Those cities sound great but CUN will be announced very soon because they got the authority to do it. Then someone said before that the next 3 cities will start with St. So probably St Louis then maybe St Maarten and St Thomas. Then I can see SRQ because that has been rumored forever and HOU to get more into TX and TUS could work very well in the winter. Maybe the will just run it seasoanl and not bother with running a connecting 190 flight. Also I read in an article from some Las Vegas company that had an interview with David Neeleman and they asked him about LAS expansion and he said it is very possible or something along those lines. He mentioned the new BUR service starting and then he went on to say something about some LAS expansion since LAS does very well for B6.

All good destinantions and probably will be the next batch I see. I can see maybe 2X A320 JFK-HOU, then maybe 2/3X A320 JFK-SRQ during peak times and then have 2/3X 190 JFK-SRQ in the off season. Then TUS could be just 1X A320 in the winter and maybe nothing in the summer months.

SRQ would be great for me! My parents have a house on Boca Grande - under an hour from SRQ, just over an hour from RSW. It's a small island with a lot of money, and most residents are from the Northeast. Adding an SRQ flight would be like adding another RSW or TPA flight, as most sarasota passengers fly through those cities at the moment. I'm sure that B6 will be able to charge higher fares on a new SRQ flght than a 10th (or whatever number) TPA flight, etc.

HOU would be awesome! Instead of just flying out of AUS, I can fly out of HOU. Hopefully they won't be flying out of the cruddy C terminal though... The new terminal is basically for Southwest. Southwest operates out of the old terminal, Terminal A, with flights still... and there might be a few open gates there now since most of their flights are in the new concourse. I imagine JetBlue will operate in Terminal A or C.

I know B6 is trying to focus on short haul on the east, but with all this talk about TUS and RNO.....what ever happened to the Palm Springs rumor???

There are so many possibilities...my guess is STL and SAV. Personally, I think MSP would be a goldmine for jetBlue with Northwest being so dominant there offering overpriced, substandard service.

MSP is in serious need of a good, reasonable airline.

HOU isn't the international airport in Houston, that is NOT CO's territory. It is however pretty dominated by WN. Plus, WN doesn't even fly out of JFK so actually this could be a significant thing for B6. CO has on some days 10 daily flights from LGA to IAH and 3 daily from JFK, and about 13 daily on some days from EWR, but that is only for IAH. Only one airline flys NYC-HOU, and thats TZ from LGA with 2 daily flights and thats all. I think I can safely say that B6 will be doing very well on this route as there is only 1 other airline in the NY area that flies that same route from LGA.

TUS is a leisure destination for many from the East Coast escaping the cold winter. Also, Rythan is a major defense contracter for the US govt which generates traffic. A B6 night flight could be very valuable for year round service since CO only operates the Newark flight during the winter months. Some have suggested driving the Phoenix...for those who live up in the northern part Tucson, like Oro Valley, it makes some sense but for those of us in town and the southside it is a long haul.

Did B6 forget that they put a couple Michigan Cities on their intial list? It seems like they are only staying on the East Coast and not expanding to Michigan or anywhere else around here; is there a reason for that. I think that a lot of people want new, great service and B6 could provide that with the E-190.

Will it happen any time soon?

Tucson, 58th largest metropolitan area in the US. Bigger than Albuquerque, El Paso, Syracuse, Toledo; smaller than Oklahoma City, Albany, Birmingham, Dayton. Add to that the population base for the rest of southern Arizona. Based on that, I think it could handle better air service. On top of that, big tourism draw (one famous resort advertises in the NYC radio and newspaper market), big defense contractor draw, big R&D draw. And if you have a perfectly good airport with an airline willing to stimulate the market, why drive 2 hours through the desert to another city?

The assumption in TUS is that PHX fares are always lower. As a result, 300,000 Tucson passengers originate in Phoenix per year. That's a lot of Airbuses and 737's. If fares were always competetive, Tucson wouldn't be struggling to maintain nonstop air service to a lot of cities.

Quick off topic question, does B6 have any additional LGA slots available to them? What is their business plan out of LGA-- strictly leisure to Florida or is there a possiblity of an LGA expansion? Obviously JFK is their bread and butter.

Well they only have 8 slots so they divided it as 5X FLL, 2X MCO and 1X PBI. I believe they are on the list for more slots but will probably just add TPA and RSW and some more MCO before they add any non LGA-Florida flights. But mostly for now, it is strictly to Florida from LGA.
