Huge reductions at BDL. BDL loses SLC and RSW service.

I'm hoping this isn't permanent!! Is this just a temporary cancellation for the slow fall season??

Whats even more suprising about BDL is they lost all 757s too, the largest a/c will be the 737-800. Wasnt too long ago they had multiple daily 767s (up to 5-6 at its peak)

I'm surprised they would cut BDL-SLC just before the ski season. Maybe a temporary reduction in the post-summer lull?

with all the aircraft leaving the fleet, I just think there aren't enough aircraft to cover all the routes they want to fly. BDL-LAX and BDL-LAS stayed and CVG covers all the other large cities via connections from BDL...

CHQ is gonna be gone from MCO too, at least thats what I heard. Too bad.... My partner has been displaced from MCO next month and he is only a year behind me in seniority..... I started at CHQ doing DL flying out of the DFW hub 4 years ago from MCO. The best 4 years of my life!!! FYI anyone traveling from LGA-DFW these days, please choose Delta. Real meals (on china) in FC and snack boxes (and a second snack from the basket) in coach!

delta cutting SLC from BDL instead of another less profitable flight just before ski season is just another brillant move by deltas management team. im really shocked they are in so much financial trouble??????????

Well what says that this wasnt one of those "less profitable flights" ? Transcon yeilds are hiddeous these days. The only reason LAS/LAX work is becuase they are redeyes. It doesnt mean DL is in financial trouble, it means they are tight on aircraft and that flight just wasnt a priority to keep around.

CMH. Notice ATL, which is losing a lot of mainline:
ATL- 3 738s, 2 E-170s, 2 ERJs. First time I can remember CMH not getting DL Mad Dogs.
CVG- 4 ERJs, 2 CRJs, 1 738
SLC- 1 E-170
LAX- 1 738
MCO- 2 ER3, 1 ERJ
BOS- 1 ER3, 1 ERJ, 1 CRJ
LGA- 4 CRJs
JFK- 2 CRJs, 1 ERJ
BDL- 2 ERJs
TPA- 2 ERJs
FLL- 1 ERJ
RSW- 1 CRJ

While we're on CMH, has anyone heard any more as to whether or not DL will expand gate wise? WN just left C50 & 51, leaving C46-52 open & there were rumblings that DL'd add gates. I also noticed flying out of CMH a couple weeks ago that they've added the automated PA announcements for boarding at C56.

Glancing through several of the higher-traffic routes, I can't help but notice the significant reduction in 757s. 757 aircraft are being pulled from JFK-West Coast, JFK/BDL/BOS-Florida, and yet I'm not seeing many of them appear on the higher-volume ATL routes (e.g. ATL-LAX, ATL-SFO, ATL-LAS actually shift away from 757s toward 767s in fall schedule) although there are a couple more 757 flights on ATL-LGA/ATL-BOS flights.

But, by my count, there are 5 757s flying BOS-Florida in July, and 1 757 flying BOS-Florida in November. Those 757s must be going somewhere, and I suspect it's into the shop to be retrofitted for new "long haul" product.

ATL-MSY-ATL is going to see 2 daily 757's...as of now, there are no 757's in the market. Also PNS gets its first ever (as long as I can remember) scheduled 757 flight to ATL.

I noticed this too.

As far as I can tell (and from what I've heard), there is a significant amount of refitting happening this fall after September's announcement. I've heard varying amounts of time needed for the new fit from 4-7 days, but still seems like a lot of 757s are outta the skeds!

I doubt they will... just remeber that they have to come out of Ch 11 yet and they aren't doing all that much domestic expansion... so unless they are going to increase CMH or suddenly can't operate the flights with what they have, why would they increase gate space?

Is CMH-DCA dropped? Are all the ERJ flights CHQ or is some Freedom? MCO, FLL etc. I was looking a few weeks ago and in Sept I saw CHQ was doing 2 of the LGA flights too. What date did you use to find these?

Thanks!

actually this sumemr they have only 3x 732s for mainline, so 2x MD88 is almost the same amount of mainline capacity.

Many other cities these days have only 1-4 DL mainline flights, I dont know if ALB is mainline or Comair, but they will only have 1 mainline in the fall.

There may be a few things helping to keep PVD a DL mainline station:

1) New England Patriots 767 charters every other week (plus some visiting team charters) use PVD From Sept-Dec every year.

2) DL's cargo operation at PVD, while it is contracted out, DL's contract cargo handles DL and also several other airlines at PVD, thus boosting station revenue

3) DL often works the INTL charters including SATA.

So DL has several revenue sources at PVD that help to lower the unit cost for DL locally.

and:

4) DL subleases use of gate 22 to NK for thier flights which is nothing more than NK helping DL pay for a jetbridge that DL already owns and a percentage of the lease cost of that gate to the airport.

Currently the schedule shows CMH-DCA operating twice daily in the fall, as opposed to the current three times daily. I mentioned earlier that the last time Delta's schedule was revised, CMH-DCA showed twice daily as well, only to be returned to thrice daily before the schedule was to become effective. I don't know whether the same scenario will take place in the fall. Also, the fall schedule shows Chautauqua and Comair operating one flight each.

Welcome to Delta. Try commuting from MCO to CMH with 4 flights a day, which is down from 6. Speaking of next month, CHQ is done with MCO-RDU... We've ran that flight since we have been down here. 5X a day at it's peak, now nothing. Now I know what it feels like to be Comair...

Off topic, but I heard from Norm today in MCO that ATL-STX is gonna be a reality pretty soon for the 170. I hope I can hold the first flight! Bet Indy crews will get it though... They get all the good stuff.

www.flightaware.com shows ALB-ATL as all CRJ-200/700 (Comair, ASA) and ATL-CVG as all CRJ-100/200 (Comair). I hope this isn't the end of DL mainline to ALB! I miss seeing 732/738s there...

With the new schedule I see one daily MD-88 on ALB-ATL, DL1598 which departs at 4:32pm; so it's not the end of DL mainline at ALB.

It indeed will be. There was a thread on the ATL-STX flight going to the E70.
