Virgin Introducing New Colours In Economy Ca

Sat Jul 01, 2006 12:42 am

The refresh will include new red and mink seat covers in Economy to compliment the colour scheme in the Upper Class Suite. The blue seats in Premium will be taking out and replaced with red until the new Super Seat arrives. There will be newly designed blankets and curtains. The change will start this summer and will hopefully be completed by Dec 07. Hopefully we will start to see the back of the yellow and blue seats, and a much more classy looking cabin will emurge

Very interesting! Are VS aiming for a more classy look, after their previous "fun, bright and loud" style?

I think that the current Y colour scheme would look very out of place considering the colour scheme in the Upper Class Suite and the planned Premium super seat. A change in economy is needed to stop to the cabin looking not just tacky but old compared to the W and Y cabins.

I think VS realise that there's little money to be made as a purely leisure airline, and these tweaks eliminate a lot of that perception.

It was noted by the company that there financial success of the last year was boosted by Business travellers, so it's understandable that VS would want a more classy up to date look in all cabins. We've yet to see what it actually looks like though, but I'm sure it'll be good.

Actually the new premium "super seat" is already being fitted to the fleet. I had a look at the first aircraft to be fitted, G-VEIL, and I must say I am impressed. The new seat is a complete redesign. It is trimmed in the same purple leather as the UCS and is wider, has more legroom, more recline, and 8 way adjustment.

Overall a massive improvement. I tried the seat out and can honestly say it is excellent. I have seen other transcontinental airlines provide far inferior seats as their business product (I know the service is only essentially Y class on VS so this is not a direct product comparism).

So long 701, it was nice knowing you.
