Airbus First-Half Orders Total 117 Aircraft

Mon Jul 10, 2006 8:18 pm

European airframer Airbus has accumulated orders for 117 aircraft and achieved deliveries of 219 over the first six months of this year.

It secured orders for 96 Airbus A320 family aircraft – the largest of which came from Indian Airlines which sealed an agreement for 43.

The remaining 21 orders for widebody types comprise five A330s, three A340-300s and 13 A350s. Airbus failed to log a single order for its A340-500/600 models.

Airbus 2006

Orders: 117 frames
Deliveries:

170 (NB)

49 (WB)

Total: 219

Boeing 2006

Orders: 358
Deliveries:

121 (NB)
39 (WB)

Total:160

Despite the differences between the manufacturers’ figures, comparison of the two can be misleading because the disclosure of their first-half totals comes ahead of the Farnborough air show in the UK later this month, traditionally a showcase for unveiling high-profile orders.

Quoting WINGS (Thread starter):
It secured orders for 96 Airbus A320 family aircraft

Which appears to indicate that the 12 orders they have booked in June are all for A32X series. Interestingly they have not finalised TAMs order which JJ announced for 6 x A332 and 31 x A32X series.

As a consequence of Airshows being in the Northern summer Airbus usually have a very good second half when it comes to announcing and booking orders. So, in my opinion, the first half figures mean very little in terms of sales and we should see quite a pick up over the coming months in orders booked.

Even though the headlines have been negative for Airbus this is a very good number as it is right in line with their delivery guidance which was provided at the start of the year when the stated they expected to deliver between 440 to 445 frames over the course of the year.

One question though, you state Boeing first half deliveries as being 160 shouldn't that be 195  Confused

The info that I got was from Flight International.

While Boeing landed orders for three times as many aircraft a total of 358 over the same period, Airbus exceeded Boeing's delivery total of 160 aircraft.

Boeing delivered 121 narrowbody 737s and 717s, as well as 39 widebodies.

It is 160 deliveries till May (as per Boeing order website) and 195 including June (as per the Boeing press release).

Seems like FI made a mistake.

The number are not misleading at all. These are first half numbers, Farnborough numbers are part of the second half numbers. You can't say your first half was better because of orders that will come in the second half. Besides, Airbus will need to double their current orders just to match Boeing YTD... provided Boeing dosn't get one single order.

I'm not sure were you got your numbers from, but Boeings web site shows the YTD Orders to be 480, not 358 as you say. It breaks down to...

374- 737's
11- 747's
4- 767's
22- 777's
69- 787's

FI made a similar error as with the deliveries: 358 is the number until May. In June almost 100 planes were sold, making the first half year gross total 452 (excl. 7 cancellations). 480 includes first week of July.

It certainly looks like it. One A318 Elite has been ordered by Stumpf, which appears to be an Austrian building company.

There's 5 A330's, these include the 2 for QF or Jetstar and the 2 for EI. Who has ordered the fifth?

BTW, Flight international has now corrected the article and has included the Boeing deliveries for June aswell, 195 till the end of June as mentioned by PanAm_DC10.

The fifth A330 order was for a VIP version. The current customer is still undisclosed.

They're definitely for Jetstar. It's no secret that the A330s are leaving Qantas and going to Jetstar, at least for the foreseeable future.

I'm sure Airbus will still win the 2006 orders race. They'll probably sign Indigo to another 400 A-320E's with deliveries stretching to 2025.   And if they're still short, then they'll work some of their January magic to eek out the victory!!

Just kidding Airbus fans. Let's see where we are August 1st!!

That cancellation belongs to Tap Portugal as they managed to buy 3 A332 (Ex Bluewings).

What about the orders for KingFisher of the five 340-500 HGW or was that just a LOI.

Thanks. The O&D spreadsheet is now updated and 2 x A318 Elites are listed so is that the 1 for a Private Customer or have Stumpf taken the one ordered by Jetalliance Austria?

Looking at Airbus pressreleases, even tough both have selected the same engines, the cabin outfitter for the Stumpf A318 has not been announced yet, while the A318 for Jetalliance will be outfitted by Lufthansa Technik.

With this information we might be able to draw the carefull conclusion that the Stumpf purchase is not related to Jetalliance.

One for Stumpf annouced in June and one for JetAlliance announced in May:

Seriously though...all through 2005, no matter how well Boeing was doing, I knew Airbus was going to come out on top. I don't think that will be the case this year, but the lads in Toulouse never seem to run out of aptly-timed magic...

Thank you and also AMSSFO I missed the Stumpf announcement so there is no connection there. I guess my question could have been expressed more clearly. Is Stumpf the A318 Elite listed as a Private Customer as it is marked as a new customer on the O&D spreadsheet?

I was aware of Jetalliance as a pending order so it's good to see they have firmed that in addition to their A319CJ. Pleasing to see the A318 Elite finding a good niche in the Corporate Jet sector and IMO it was an astute move by Airbus to offer the variant for what was a slow selling model.
