How are the Loads on US-Brazil Flights

Sat Jul 15, 2006 6:43 am

Does anyone know how the loads are on the the US-Brazil flights? Are the other carriers flights operations at or near capacity with the varig situation? How are the airports in Brazil coping with all the stranded pax? Ive heard that there are lines everyday and lots of passengers having trouble getting to destinations with overbooked flights.... Anyone know about this?

Has any airline upped their frequencies to Brazil since the collapse of Varig. Maybe LH should, for european *A pax, and likewise for UA for american *A pax.

It is so sad to see Varig on the verge of terminating operations.

The US and Brazil have a very restrictive air treaty, airlines cannot just up their frequencies. AA has applied for seven emergency frequencies to operate beyond the standard bilatteral. AA has a hefty Brazil schedule that this winter will have seven daily flights, five of them from Miami.

5 daily flights to Miami! Is there like a big brazillian community in Miami or something? Where are the other 2 daily flights to?

MIA has become the number 1 hub for South America. It is also a major hub for AA.
In regards to Brazilian community. Pompano Beach specifically but also Miami Beach itself has huge Brazilian populations. Also to bare in mind is that the South Florida schools will start around August 1st and many Brazilians now are visiting family in Brazil but will need to get back to August 1st. Otherwise August and September is off peak season before it starts to pick up again so the crisis can be worse in a couple of month.

Yes, there is a huge Brazilian community in Miami, located mainly, as stated in Pompano Beach and Miami Beach (more specifically, in upper Miami Beach. The Brazilian neighboudhood is just south of Little Buenos Aires), as well as in downtown Miami. Though Miami is also a major hub for US-Brazil traffic.

I was on AA JFK-GRU a couple weeks back and on the outbound and return, all classes were completely full.
