What Aircraft Do Purolator Use?

Hello all,

I was just looking through the database and have found that Purolator only has small size aircrafts (727 and prop).How do they deliver mail across to Europe and Asia.What aircraft do they use?Do they piggy back off some other air courier?

Any comments?

Purolator does not have any foreign offices, it delivers its mail abroad through other partners, ie. in the US its DHL, you won't see a purolator truck outside of Canada.

Purolator (originally part of the company that makes oil, air, and other filters for vehicles) merged it's business in the USA into Airborne Express a number of years ago, which in turn merged into DHL. They may still use the name in some markets due to certain local licensing and marketing issues.

FYI, the origin of the name Purolator is "Pure-oil-later."

Purolator Courier in Canada is owned by Canada Post (a Crown Corporation). Their 727s (and Convairs) are operated and maintained by Kelowna Flightcraft.

Purolator indeed has had a very lucrative deal with Airborne Express in the US to deliver it's packages. When ABX was merged into DHL, we subsequently renewed our contract with DHL. DHL delivers our freight in the US.

This is correct.

As a matter of fact, the gentleman who owns Kelowna (Barry Lapointe) actually sits on our Board of Directors.

Additionally, Purolator years ago went through a re-branding so to speak. We kept the name, but we had to change our logo. This was part of the agreement when Canada Post bought us.

Just a side-tid-bit, Canada Post owns about 95% (I believe?) of Purolator Courier, however, we are completely and separately run. As a matter of fact, Canada Post is one of our major competitors!

There were still some old old old Purolator Oil-similar logo's on our fleet a while ago (automobile fleet) and subsequently we had to make payments to Purolator Oil Filter, as we were using their branding.

Purolator is becoming a large company --> we are the premier courier company in Canada, and hope to become larger in the US. We have Purolator USA, which is mainly a north-bound to Canada, consolidated shipment service. Works quite well, our customers love it.

I've seen your base at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada CYHM. How many aircraft does Purolator operate now? Do they call it Purolator Courier in Canada, eh?

I'm not sure how many we operate, but I believe its in the range of 10-14 planes. I will find out though.

You learn something new everyday on a.net. I just put a Purolator oil filter on my car today and until this moment, I thought they only made filters. That's why when I saw the thread name I thought what the heck is this doing in civil aviation.

INCORRECT! I worked for AFC and Purolator was AFC's Canadian EXPRESS agent. Heavyweight shipments and those requiring formal customs clearnance were handled by Peace Bridge Brokers.

Per JP Fleets International, Emery Worldwide merged Purolator' US operations into their own in September 1987.

Kelowna Flightcraft operates 12 727-200's and 4 CV-580's for purolator. Barry Lapointe who own's KF owns 5% of Purolator and sits on their board of directors, Canada Post owns 94% of the company and the remaing 1% is owned by employees.
