MH Reroutes KUL-DXB-BEY To KUL-DXB-DAM

Wed Jul 26, 2006 1:05 am

After suspending its service to BEY on July 14, MH made some changes to the effected route.

MH will start flight operations three times a week between DXB and DAM, to temporarily replace the suspended DXB-BEY return flights.

The services between DXB and DAM will be operated from July 28 till August 29. The re-route follows the closure of BEY.

In a statement on July 25, MH said flights MH156 and MH157, originally serving BEY, would now be temporarily rerouted to KUL-DXB-DAM and DAM-DXB-KUL respectively on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

MH has never flew to DAM before.

Interesting.

Maybe this could also be an opportunity for MH to 'test' the DAM market?

Hi Roni,

I think so too. Plus right now is a peak period for Middle Eastern tourists to flood Malaysia. MH currently serves Bahrain and Kuwait purposely during this peak period.

But I am wondering, how come DAM can give approval so fast? There's not even a news saying that MH are applying to serve DAM in local dailies. Is the Syrian government temporarily gives approval due to the condition in BEY?

For the record, since announcing the suspension of BEY on July 14 until this news came out, MH operate MH157 and MH156 as KUL-DXB-KUL only. Missing the "supposed to be another" one return leg. I hope BEY will get back on foot soon.

I am assuming that DAM is giving temporary approvals due the conditions at BEY. Also, MEA will be operating from DAM as well!

In any case, MH is one GREAT GREAT GREAT airline, and i am hoping that they will get out of the throubles that they have been in!

I have never been on any of their A330 metal. I have been on their 777 from DXB (Dubai) to BEY (Beirut) and also to EWR (Newark) back in the day. Do they have personal IFE on the A330's?

Too bad, I think they have not. I have been into several of MH's A330 and A332 and all were without ptv. Watching the movie onboard is using the old cinema style (big screen at the front of the cabin) and galley tv system. Correct me if I am wrong.

I really hope the service will help ferry those who fled Lebanon through Syria. This particular MH flight will bring them to DXB where a lot of connection throughout the world is available.

Really? But so far the route has succeed in 2 rounds of axing by MH. Plus I don't hear anything about MH going to axe BEY.

MH are evaluating all Middle East routes except Jeddah for the next two years quoting an MH official in April, so this may just make them pull out sooner.

I see. I think, not only most of the Middle Eastern routes, MH is evaluating the whole routes in its entire network, as part of its Business Turnaround Plan. The new management will axe any route which are unprofitable, "bleeding" they referred it. Whether they are going to succeed of not, it depends on the decision by the Malaysian government. Actually, there is more talks going around that MH is going to axe ZRH and FRA than BEY.

Does this include the 2x weekly KUL-CAI-KUL B772 flights or is that considered an African destination?

You hit the nail on the head.
I just flew KUL-MLE in Golden Club class and the tv in the A332 was extremely old, it was not even a projection screen , it was and old tube style tv and I dont even think it worked because the safety demonstration was done the old fashioned way.

In MH's fleet, Airbus A330/A332 were used for "unpopular" routes. Prestigious routes will be serve by B777 and B744. Most of the time I flew MH's Airbuses are between the Malaysian states accross the South China Sea.

If I was not mistaken MH uses its Airbuses to serve the Middle East including Turkey, India/South Asia and some Chinese destinations.

MH used to use 777's to all of their unpopular destinations in the past, atleast in the middle east.

Quite a shame for MH to replace the B772 with A330/A332. If we were to compare the type of aircraft some South East Asian carriers used for their respective operation to DXB for instance:

Royal Brunei - B767-300ER
SQ - B777-300
TG - A333

SQ seems to be the winner here.

EK is currently sending its B772 and A332 to KUL. They will upgrade it to B773 in September. On par with SQ.

A surprise news article came out from Malaysian daily today.

http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp

The key news, among others:

"Syria has long been pressing MH to fly to its capital, and the break came by default following the closure of Lebanon’s Rafik Hariri International Airport after Israeli air strikes damaged the facility and runway on July 13. Since then, MH temporarily replaced its operations in BEY with a service to DAM.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Mekdad, who arrived here on an MH A330, said: “It will be nice for MH to fly to DAM under better circumstances."

Is a permanent service to DAM in the pipeline?
