TK Starts IST-SIN Non Stop 8/1/06

Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:56 am

http://www.thy.com/en-INT/corporate/...ncements/announcement.aspx?aid=944

-It will be 4xweek and looks like with a A343, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the route itself. 20 yrs. already, wow! Congratulations TK!
-On the website it also says IST-NBO starts tomorrow operated by Kenya Airways jointly. Kenya Airways website shows the route via Cairo. Anyone has more info on this?

Some other destinations on TKs long haul fleet:
-Tomorrow 8/1/06
332s will be at TLV, MUC, AMS, FRA
343s will visit DUS, LHR
-Which means 332s will be the workhorse doing PEK, BKK.

Both SIN and HKG will be delinked from BKK and all destinations are to be operated nonstop. SIN receives four weekly nonstop flights, while HKG gets just two - they should make that at least three, in this day and age a thrice weekly service is the absolute minimum. All nonstop IST-SIN and IST-HKG flights will be operated with the A343, while IST-BKK will get a daily dedicated terminator service with A332.

Are you sure it is a code share?
Tonight there is the flight, PIA762 IST-ISB @21:05 only marked as a PIA flight, no TK flight number next to it.

KQ have been operating 2x weekly NBO-CAI-IST-CAI-NBO B733 flights since S05. The airline does not have passenger rights on the CAI-IST-CAI sector. The schedule is as follows:

NBO CAI IST KQ324 1---5-- 10:20/15:05*/18:10 1 B733 CAI
IST CAI NBO KQ325 1---5-- 20:45/23:50*/04:45 1 B733 CAI

*arrival time into Cairo

Thanks Horus, always great info.
Excuse my ignorance, but why does KQ stop in CAI then? Cargo or technical stop?
TK website makes it sound like the flights are new.

WITH KQ AIRCRAFT
----------------
KQ324 / TK8859 DEP. NBO 10.50 / ARR. CAI 15.35 DATE 1/5
KQ324 / TK8859 DEP. CAI 16.35 / ARR. IST 18.40 DATE 1/5 (*)
KQ325 / TK8860 DEP. IST 20.45 / ARR. CAI 22.50 DATE 1/5 (*)
KQ325 / TK8860 DEP. CAI 23.50 / ARR. NBO 04.45*DATE 2/6

Flights will be operating by B737-700.
Sector of IST-CAI no ticket can be sold as KQ does not have the 5th freedom traffic right for this sector. So flight stopover at CAI is because pick up passenger and cargo from CAI to NBO.

You right IWC, for sure HKG is affortable to at least 4 flights a week as even 2 flights a week between HKG-IST non-stop are above 85-90% load factor. TK want more flights to HKG but they can't due to the ASA between two government.

If memory serves me right, when CX served HKG IST, they used to do so thrice weekly with A343, so why couldn't TK do the same?

CX operated 2 flights only as well due to the ASA signed by both government.

Ok, then. I thought it was thrice weekly. In that case the Hong Kong - Turkey bilateral ASA is in need of an update. A twice weekly service is not commercially viable these days.

You right, Hong Kong invited Turkey for talked in year 2004 because of Cathay wishes to return to IST via DXB by 5th freedom but TK rejected (SQ operating IST-DXB 5th freedom currently). At that ASA meeting, no result made as CX rejected by TK and Turkey CAD did something getting HKCAD lose face (In our Chinese culture), TK were operating 3 flights per week via BKK exceed of bilateral ASA at that time. HKG did proposed fifth freedom beyond HKG around the asia for exchange DXB-IST 5th freedom but also rejected by TK. TK proposed anyway stopover 5th freedom to CX not via DXB but CX rejected.

My friends told me that TK head office will start working again and increase flight to HKG at least 4 per week up to daily for Hong Kong after new 24 destinations open due our position is important and one of the best station on passenger and cargo load factor since non-stop service started.

You're welcome TK787. I have to say I enjoy your TK threads too. Quite informative.

Regarding KQ's IST flights, they stop in CAI as they pick up passengers/cargo on the NBO-CAI-NBO sectors. KQ also have 5x weekly NBO-CAI flights (routing via KRT).

NBO CAI KQ320 -234-67 17:20/23:30 6hr10min 1 EQV* KRT
CAI NBO KQ321 1-345-7 00:25/06:40 6hr15min 1 EQV* KRT

* EQV = 3 flights with the B737 and 2 with the B763

Therefore the NBO-CAI-IST-CAI-NBO flights give KQ a daily presence in Cairo.

I'd imagine the news release on TK's website is to announce the start of the codeshare agreement rather than the launch of the year-old service.

Hope that answers your question.
