China Southern Expanding To Africa And India

Thu Aug 03, 2006 1:14 am

China Southern have applied for rights to fly to Cairo(CAI) and Mumbai(BOM) from October 2006, as Beijing-Dubai-Cairo with A330 and Guangzhou-Mumbai with 757.

Guangzhou-Mumbai with 757.

Can the 757 do that flight with full payload, considering there is immense cargo potential between the two cities, i think it would be a 767.

This is great news and definitely long over due. Egyptair relaunched their flights to Beijing in October 2005 with 4x weekly CAI-BKK-PEK-BKK-CAI B777 flights. With the boom in business and tourist travel between China and Egypt these flights will be welcome.

At the moment CZ have 3x weekly PEK-DXB-PEK A330-200 flights (CZ331/332), so I'd imagine if this goes ahead all 3 flights will be extended to CAI.

It's interesting they'll use DXB as the intermediary stop considering they're highly unlikely to get passenger rights on the DXB-CAI-DXB sectors (like KE's ICN-DXB-CAI-DXB-ICN flights).

777way, when can we expect confirmation of this news?

I hope this beauty graces Egyptian skies...

SkyTeam will happen... it is routine for it to take a couple of years between announcing ST and actually happening.

Yep, it will do eventually, but it ain't one of those things that will happen over night. They seem to take their time over these kind of things!

Now if only CZ would improve its inflight product. I can't talk for the widebody services (A332 and B772), but the product on the A320s and B752s is austere to put it lightly, even in premium classes. I've experienced it a couple of times on the CGK-CAN route and it's nothing to write home about. I pitty the passengers stuck in that B752 on a route like CAN-BOM.

Mumbai may eventually end up being uopgraded to an A330, China Easttern also went from A300 down to A320 and up to A343 for Delhi, while BOM was launched with A300 and went up to A343.

Here are the facts on the 757-200:
A.net: Boeing 757-200

According to GrCM, BOM-CAN is 4211km. MTOW range with P&W is 7277km, with RR 6888km.

So it should be doable without payload restrictions.

I am glad that CZ is planning to launch a BOM-CAN flight. At present it takes 10-14 hours to go from India to China. Do not know why MU stopped the BOM-PVG flight in less than 6 months or if they plan to restart the route - which, given time will I am sure would be successful. Also CA announced in March or April that they were going to start PEK-BOM-DXB and PEK-DEL flights - I see the PEK-DEL flight on amadeus but not PEK-BOM. It is interesting that PEK-DEL now has CA,MU and ET and PEK-BOM has no flights

Are China Southern looking at expanding further into the Australian market? BNE is set to receice its first link to mainland China soon. Is there any word on whether it is China Southern?
Here is a route map for China Southern.
http://www.cs-air.com/en/wnfw/02/001_S.HTM
It outlines BNE as a destination. Even though they currently do not serve the city...could this be a future destination?

Also, are they downgrading MEL/SYD services? I have heard somewhere that they might be changing their SYD/MEL services from the 772 to a 332 or something like that.

Thanks

Chinese airliners will launch several new routes to Africa, Saudi Arabia and South America (esp. Brazil). Because Chinese government will give golden rights, 28 weekly to NRT, 14/w PEK-ICN and 14/w PVG-ICN, to those airliners who will start new destinations to Africa (PEK-ICN), Saudi Arabia and South America (PVG-ICN), Brazil (NRT).

G'day Fuffla,

China Southern used to fly to BNE a few years back for a relatively short period, but then the poor load factors could simply not justify to operate that route anyway... Sure, times have changed, and the Queensland Govt and management from China Southern have set up a special task team to analyse the possibility of having CAN-BNE service resumed... However, most within the China Southern management don't hold much hope for a return of CAN-BNE service in the immediate future... BTW, China Southern has been utilising their A332s instead of B772s on Australian routes for months, if not years...

Regards.

I didnt know that either, what was the routing? Amadeus shows no direct service on China Eastern(MU) from Beijing to Delhi either only from Shanghai with A300 and A332.

I just noticed EK are beginning a daily DXB-PEK-DXB A343 flight in Sep06. Is CZ's decision to extend their DXB flight to CAI made due to the expected drop in passenger numbers to EK?

And 777way...

777way,

The DEL flight I believe originates in PEK and goes via PVG. MU stopped flying to BOM in Oct '05 - just 6 months after starting the service. I am excited about the proposed CZ service to BOM - when do you they'll announce it

That is an interesting little tidbit...So if an airline does NRT they can do Brazil. There are no open slots at NRT unless with a 737 landing on the short runway and even then I think it is limited.

Where can Chinese carriers fly and have fifth freedom rights to reach Brazil? Don't think its the US. Don't think they have many rights through Europe. Is it via DXB?
My name is Centrair but HND is closer. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Mmm... what I understood is that, an airline that open Brazil route can additionally fly into NRT, or at least that airline can be in priority position to catch NRT slots. I think China obtained additional 28/w NRT slots on the recent aviation meeting.
