Ted In BOS

Mon Aug 14, 2006 10:18 am

While sitting on Nantasket beach today, watching 33L ops in BOS, I saw a Ted A320 fly overhead. I don't think they fly here, so I was thinking it was an equipment sub.

Does anyone know the reason for sure?

Dulles is the nearest place TED flies, low chance of diversion into BOS, I'll be there in a couple hours, maybe it will still be there.

United has operated planes that are painted in the Ted livery, but configured in the regular United seating layout. I flew ORD-SEA in a plane painted in the Ted livery, but it had first class and was a normal flight. There have been other threads about this. So there is a good chance you saw a plane that is planned to operate Ted flights, but hasn't recieved the new interior and thus is serving normal UA routes since Boston is not a leisure destination that Ted flies to.

Sometimes there are Ted equipment swaps when a Mainline A-320 will go mechanical. There was an incident about a year ago when a 744 operating ORD-SFO was swapped to a Ted A-320 because it was all they had around.

UA has done equipment substitutions on their DEN-BOS route before.

I got stuck on a TED flight last December. DEN-BOS and return went TED when the mainline A320 went technical in DEN.

Why UA wasn't able to find another mainline A320 in their DEN hub, I have no idea.

Two weeks ago I flew BOS-DEN on a TED A320.... I think it was a last minute substitution. The plane was inbound from LAX, however. Service was UA Mainline, though having never flown TED, I'm not sure how much it differs.
