GRU GIG Layovers

Fri Aug 18, 2006 1:55 pm

Does anyone know where the crews usually overnight in GRU and GIG from the foreign airlines? Do they stay near the airport, or do they stay in Sao Paulo downtown, and in Rio Copacabana, Ipanema etc. Is Brazil a popular place that crews try to schedule themselves on? Thanks

In Rio, BA pop down to the Marriott hotel on Avenida Atlantica in Copacabana for a few hours. Seen American crew there too.

In Rio AF crew lay-over at Sofitel Hotel in Copacabana (just a short walk from Ipanema).

I know AF and KL crew lay-over in downtown Sao Paulo in one of the Accord hotels most probably the Sofitel.

If I'm not mistaken AA crew stays near the airport at the Marriot GRU hotel.

I´ve seen AF and TAAG crews at Le Meridien in Copacabana some times. IB used to stay at Melia in SP.
Better one flying than two grounded

IB crews stay at Hotel Sofitel in Copacabana and Hotel Melia Mofarrej in GRU. Mostly arriving in the morning and leaving in the afternoon the next day. There are also a few rotations where the crew spend several days there. Two quite popular destinations amongst us

Rgs,

Bad luck! That hotel looks just about the worst Marriott I have ever seen. Not exactly loads to do around Guarulhos either other than go shopping I guess.

It's actually not bad. Across the street is a pharmacy and supermarket. The rooms are nice, the pool is very nice. Great breakfast and dinner buffet. Curtains make the rooms go pitch black for the 11 hour layover. Hotel staff are exremely nice. What more could you as for?

No complaints from me on the hotel.

Free internet in the room ?
I was very surprised to have to buy a card from the front desk to do so when I stayed there 2 weeks ago. And this with a room rate of more than 180 USD !
I will never fly again 777 with 3-4-3 config in Y

In Sao Paulo, AA crews have 2 hotels.... When in a short lay-over, it is the Mariott Guarhulos (by the airport), and for long lay-overs it is the Renassance downtown.... In Rio its back to the old Intercontinental which is not everyones favorite choice, but in my opinion its all right.

AA axed the GRU-ASU run, and this means all AA flights operated in GRU are now long-haul (MIA, JFK, DTW). Does it mean all AA lay-overs in GRU are now long lay-over (i.e. more than 12h?).

An FA on DL told me on my last trip from ATL to GRU that she stays in a very nice hotel (Should have gotten the name) and they get a small amount of money to go out to eat at the Chuhascuria (spelling?) and go small shopping and such. She said this is the only route she will continue to do 2 times a week. This FA was the most friendlyest one I have ever had. We became good friends on the 10 hour flight there and 3 months later when I came back to the United States she was my FA once again  Smile
