Is This An A320 Or A319?

Fri Aug 25, 2006 12:22 am

Look at this picture:

https://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0829100

So, it looks like an A319, but it has two window exits on each side, which would make it an A320. Any thoughts, because it really does look like an A319, but I've never heard of one with two window exits on each side.

A319 for sure as U2 never had the A320.

Its an A319, and the dual exits is unique to Easyjet (but also easy to implement for Airbus).

Simple explanation: Easy have two window exits on their A319s so they can put more seats on the aircraft. The limit with one exit is 149 IMO.

Its an A319, its just U2 have an extra set of overwing exits because they have so many seats in them. The extra set over exits are required by law so the aircraft can be evacuated quicker I believe.

That's what I thought, but I had never heard of it being done before. Thank's for filling me in.

Not unique to easyJet, CebuPacific has them too:

Some others have ordered it too (Germanwings and/or Wizzair (not sure about this))

Don't know if other airlines have them too. But I think at least one airline has them

AFAIK Easyjet removed 6 seats on their 319 so that the only have 146 seats to replace the fourth F/A.

Yeah... An A320 would have been noticeably longer than that. It took me only a matter of seconds to tell it was an A319; I often have some trouble IDing aircraft myself  Smile

I think the A319 is rated for 130 pax on one overwing exit, cause 140 is where your reaching the A320. AC has the 319's configed to 120. I will look at the Type Data Certificate for both and get back.

I believe its 156 seats.

It has to be more than that, at least in the US. DH A319's had 132 seats with only one overwing exit per side.

Now back to under 150 to fly with three F/A's only.

AC's 320s only seat 140. It's easy to squeeze in more seats when galleys, bulkheads, closets and J class seats are eliminated from the mix. Plus most Y rows on AC's 320 fleet are at 32".

It was developed and certified for Easyjet but it's now an available option for all 319 buyers.
