BA Diverted To KEF For Emergency Landing

Sun Aug 27, 2006 3:22 am

Just on the local news here.
A BA aircraft just made an emergency landing at KEF airport.
270 pax on board. The aircraft had a fire on board.
Yet unknown is the type of aircraft (probably B777 or B747) and what the origin/destination was...

Anyone has some more news on this?

Very little new news just coming in again.

It seems to be a B777 originating in DEN on its way to LHR, it has safely landed at 18.15 hrs GMT at KEF airport. According to the local TV news here, there was smoke development in the aircraft due to a fire in one of the pantry ovens.

and again a tiny bit of information...
The aircraft was on its way to DEN! (not originating there)

On KEF airport's website http://www.keflavikairport.com you can now find this info: http://mail.kefairport.is/fids/Depart.idc?

flight dest. departure
BA219 Denver 19:00 Estimat. 20:00

Everything seems to have been all right. The 268 pax did not need to leave the aircraft.

Good to hear. The only loss would be some toasty All Day Delis then?

Too bad it wasn't originating in LGW, or we could have had roast bird seed...  Sad

So what are the odds of having both of Denver's international-europe service getting diverted on the same day? (Another tread has the LH flight going to MSP).

Extrodinary, I cannot believe all the diversions lately. I mean its exciting in a way because it gives us aviation nuts something to find out about but i think the ammount of diversions lately is mad!

Hi!

Just out of curiosity, could someone dig up the reg# of the aircraft? Although a local news station here managed to stretch a story about this incident up to almost half an hour, none of the footage included close-ups of the parts of the aircraft were the registration could be seen...  boggled   irked

Do you seriously believe the crew were not paying attention?! More likely an electrical problem. Look at the timing, this would be after the main meal service, or at least after the meals had been heated, a process that starts at departure time.

It may just be that diversions are currently more newsworthy what with heightened security and the media spotlight being on the aviation industry.

Possibly, or maybe they left cardboard in the oven again. That's always a good one to get the smoke alarm going Big grin
