Football Charters

Wed Aug 30, 2006 10:02 pm

With football here, does anyone know about who the teams use and what type of aircraft they use?

Last year when Tampa came to town in CLT, they had a NW 753. That was a cool sight to see. This year i've seen a lot of people flying on Delta's 763s. Hopefully i'll be able to see more of them this year and try and get some pics.

How does a footbal charter effect the airline? Would they just use a spare aircraft or do they have to pull it out of the schedule?

The Packers, Lions, Vikings, Colts, Cardinals use NWA. As of last year, the Eagles, Bucs also flew on NWA. All of these use a 757-200/300 and they get an upgrade to a DC-10/A330 for one game.

The great and almighty, but not yet competitive, Cleveland Browns, utilize a DL 763 which goes by flight number DL9787.

Allegiant does quite a few sports charters.

I understand Allegiant has the contract to fly the Fresno State football team this year to games at: LSU, Washington, Boise State, Louisiana Tech and Utah State.

New England uses a Delta 767-300 out of and back into Providence.

Visiting teams to New England use PVD mostly, but depending on where their hotel is they will use Boston or even Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts. BED is at about the 10-o'clock position with respect to Boston, about 20 miles away. From there it's about a 40-min drive down to the stadium, which is about at the 6-o'clock position with respect to the city of Boston...about 40 miles south.

TZ does its fair share of charters during the season. I am not sure they have a particular team, but do ad-hoc when needed and available.

The Saints usually either use a DL 752 or 763.

LSU also usually flies DL. For the Peach Bowl this past year, they took a DL 763. However, on their way out, the plane got stuck in the mud turning on a taxiway at BTR, and a replacement had to be sent in.

As of last year, Washington State used a Frontier A319 out of PUW. Not sure if that will carry over to this season or not, though it sounds possible. Coach Bill Doba told reporters that their unnamed charter company says that a fuel stop will be required on their flight down to Auburn this weekend.

well with our (original  Smile ) version of football here in the UK... Malaysian carriers seem to be a popular choice as a mode of transport (thanks to the huge popularity of the sport throughout Malaysia)...

Most of the time last year the Chargers used a DL 757. For the long east coast trips they had a 763. Most of the time they do use a 757. Cheap asses!
Can you imagine a fat O-lineman sitting in a middle seat. I wonder how many seat belt extensions they have onboard.

The Chargers have used Delta for a number of yrs. The flight number usually is always DL9820.

They had a 757 all the way to ORD a few weeks back.

The Denver Broncos flew a charter by the name of Ports of Call Denver in the 70s and 80s. POCD had a CV990, 727, and 707, they may have had more planes, but those are the ones I remember.

I have seen the Milwaikee Brewer's 727 at KCPS, in 2006, but it was dark and I could not see the numbers on the plane.

Broncos arrived in PHX on 8/30 on a UA 763 which then went onto LAX. Two games tongiht in the Phoenix Area. The Cardinals/Broncos in the new digs, and Arizona State Football. Probably somewhere around 110,000 fans attending games tonight.

At least since I was a freshman in 2000, the marching band has never chartered a flight. During my time in the band we took bus trips in the regular season to Michigan, MSU, Purdue, West Virginia, and even as far away as Florida State. For bowl games, since the students are on break that time for year and they're spread out all around the country, the band then arranges for everyone to fly on normal commercial flights from their home town to the site of the bowl game.

Chargers are flying out Friday at 11:30am to SFO for a 7PM game. Cheap Chargers didn't want to pay for a hotel. Hope it doesn't take a mechanical or weather isn't a issue.

They are scheduled for a DL757 #9820

When I was flying into MCI last Nov we saw the Raiders come in on the HA 763. I think they may have a dedicated plane since it had a Raiders sticker on it.
