If I remember correctly, SAS had flights until the mid-1970s that originated in CPH, stopped in LIS, and continued on to RIO, MVD, and EZE. These flights may have terminated in SCL. I think they operated only once or twice a week. Last week, I read in an aviation magazine that SAS started service to RIO and MVD in 1946, and extended it to EZE in 1947.

As long as I remember, SAS had pulled out of EZE, but in the eighties, when the Argentinian government started talking with them in order to sell Aerolíneas Argentinas, they returned to Buenos Aires for a while. Can't say for how long or how many weekly flights, though. By those days, the route was served with a DC-10.

Not really South America but I was looking at an old SK timetable from 1974 and was amazed to see that they ran a DC-8 to Port of Spain and Barbados. It was a once per week thing and stopped somewhere en route. I will have to check.

I remember they arrived in EZE every thursday and sunday from CPH, with stops in LIS and RIO, and the aircraft was a DC-10-30. That must have ended in the late 80's or beginning of the 90's. It had the white fuselage and the three flags paintscheme.

In mid 90´s they stopped operating GIG with the DC-10-30 and started operating from GRU with B763 non stop GRU/CPH (no more LIS fuel stop).

Longest nonstop twin-engine flight, you mean. There were several longer 747 flights-- by distance, anyway.

Didn't SK also fly to CCS in the past with the DC10?

During the 80's too, CPH-LIS-RIO-EZE, with a DC-10-30.
Remember that by that time, SAS was interested in Aerolineas Argentinas. They even used AR Terminal.

When BA departed CCS I suggested why not SAS try to
market South America. Might be a good spot for tourism.
Just imagine CPH-CCS-LIM; or CPH-BOG-SCL; also
CPH-RIO-MVD; CPH-GRU-EZE; CPH-CCS-UIO-VVI. Just
remember some of this flights can originate in Oslo or
Stockholm...

I am surprised not one of our Chilean A.netters has chipped in to say that, from the mid 1980s till the early 1990s, LAN Chile was part-owned by SAS which introduced profound cultural and managerial changes in the airline and put it on a growth path at long last.

This last situation (of unremitting growth) remains to this day as we all know, as Chile's economic perfomance has transformed the country beyond recognition and enabled LAN to be the major Latin American force in civil aviation it is today.

SAS stopped South American services at around the same time as it divested its interests in LAN Chile.

SAS always operated the southern route. The last Dc-10 flights were nonstop both ways in the late 1980's. 767 flew nonstop too. SAS had about 10 763 for the main intercontinental routes to Japan and the USA but for
CPH - Singapore and CPH to Brazil they used 2 or 3 762ER's they had for the 14 hour flights.

Not likely. Though it would be nice to have it back. There is to little money in those flights. And I think that SK is looking for route that generate more cash.
Though if they were to get the 787, as mentioned in another thread, it might be possible.

They used to serve:
Buenos Aires
Motevideo
Rio de Janeiro
Santiago de Chile
Sao Paolo

The last South American destinations to go was the Brazilian ones served nonstop by B767-200 in late 80's/early 90's. Varig serves Scandinavia with its thrice weekly CPH-LHR-GRU/GIG with MD11/B777

No more. RG only serves FRA in Europe. And the RG sales agent in CPH has now closed shop, so it is not likely that RG returns.

I remember the last flight from GIG to CPH. I was on it, with my mother as the purser. It was a really sad flight. Everybody were sad, as an era ended.

Too late, you said it all since I was  zzz . Are there any pictures of SAS in SCL in the DB?

First pic shows SK in GIG and second pic shows SK with KL, AZ and JL in the background. Of the four airlines, only SK axed GRU from its network.
