NW 757-200 With Winglets

Well it looks like we're going to modify some 757-200 with winglets. It looks like a total of 10 757-200 will have winglets. on Sep 24 looks like ship number 5636 will be the first one to have them.

Source?? What company is providing winglets? Have the selected acft any other long distance alterations? Will they be installed "in house" (whatever that is any more). I don't doubt it but would like details although I assume company press will come out with it.

Wow this could mean BDL-AMS! or DTW-GLA... But it could also mean Hawaii expansion from the West Coast.

What would be the possible range of a NW 757-200 with winglets?

What Pratt is flying with winglets. I know of only RR-RB211 equipped 757's with them. TZ and UA do not have them.

I think we are both correct. AP-Boeing designed, patented and sells the shipsets. Fischer actually makes them for the 757-200. A Japanese company...Kawaski maybe???...manufacturers the others. IIRC

Just curious, how come there are winglets being used only on the -200? Is it not effective to use it on the -300?

Word is, that the -300's will get the winglets over time, but after the 5600 series(5635-5649 only, 5650-5657 lack the basic ETOPs provisions) -200's get them. Whether the 5500 series(5501-5534) will get them is unclear at present time. These are relegated to domestic flying only, because they lack key fuel systems hardware required for extended overwater ops. They quite a few years older than the newer 757's. I suppose they would give overall fuel savings, but the age and the geographic operation of these aircraft is an economical question. If there was a shortage of 757's, I would bet that NWA might invest in modifying the 5500, and final 7 5600 series aircraft.

This is true. Ship 5636 is out of service as we speak in Canada getting the winglets installed. Don't know of the date Sep.24? Just in a meeting a week or so ago and they update on this that NWA is going fWD with flying to the UK and EU with this A/C.

Can't wait to see the first images of this. I know there are some people out there who think winglets just look rediculous on the 757, but I just think they make it look even better. Kinda gives the 757 a "Made in the 21st Century" look.

My hunch is the winglets are going to be solid red. No logo there. Just like on A330s.

I am an XJ employee and today I saw the NW 757 with winglets. I was very surprised because I didn't know they were getting winglets on the 757, till I saw one and now I just looked it up here. The winglets are painted like the tails of the NW a/c, all red and maybe 3/4 way down changes to the gray/siliver. I wish I could have gotten a pic, but the weather was not the best and my camera phone takes horrible pics. I will try to get a pic on Wednesday when I work next, that's if the plane is here at DTW.

I saw a NW 757-200 with winglets at YLW a few days ago, it was sitting in the Kelowna Flightcraft Hangar. I dont know if they installed them, but i believe it was only there breifly.

I just saw this A/C yesterday [Sep. 24] in DTW. Winglets are solid red, and it definitely looks good. Didn't have my camera on me, and besides those little "dots" on the windows at DTW would probably have messed it up.

Simple...anywhere NW is currently flying their 757s. I suppose Europe service may start when a few more retrofitted birds come online, but I seriously doubt NW is planning winglet specific routes at this point.

Saw a NWA 757 with winglets at SEA on Saturday just out of hangar. Maybe I'll be seeing them in MAN in the next few years??

Only 3 A/C will be getting winglets this Fall, The remaining 7 will get the mod done in early 2007. The Next A/C should be leaving YLW about Oct.8, as the a/c are scheduled in for only 14 days to complete the winglet install.
