"CanJet launches new charter operation"
HALIFAX, Sept. 27 /
CNW/ - Kenneth C. Rowe, Chairman & CEO, IMP Group
Limited, stated today that CanJet Airlines' efforts to secure charter business
have been very positive to date. Mr. Rowe confirmed that CanJet has concluded
agreements to provide charter flights this fall and winter from various
Canadian cities to sun destinations such as Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican
Republic, the Bahamas and Jamaica.
"I am delighted to make this announcement today," said Mr. Rowe, "and to
state that in addition to the approximately 70 CanJet employees that over
100 Pilots and Flight Attendants will be re-hired to active duty to operate
the initial six Boeing 737 aircraft which will be deployed for charter
flights." Mr. Rowe went on to say, "I anticipate our personnel numbers will
increase as we secure additional contracts and I believe it is worth noting
that CanJet's initial charter fleet is 50% larger than the original CanJet
fleet we operated on launch day on June 20, 2002."
Mr. Rowe stated that CanJet personnel will focus their energies on
securing charter flying opportunities but he did not rule out a return to
scheduled service. He said, "Moving forward, we may look at providing
scheduled services during peak times on city pairs which have profit potential
but I want to emphasize that our primary focus will be the charter business."
I don't get why they didn't keep their Florida flights, which were probably some of their best performing routes. These could have easily been converted to charters.
