Bad Weather Cockpit Videos

Mon Oct 09, 2006 3:43 am

I know there are plenty of videos on FL350, but does anybody know of any cockpit videos in very bad weather?

I'm not after outside videos, such as TAP Airbus at Lisbon coming in sideways, although that it some serious flying!!

Thanks.

There's one on YouTube, but I don't remember the link. From an airliner cockpit, little visibiltiy until at the decision height when you can just start to see the approach lights.

I know it's not a cockpit video, but I've never seen this one. What was the airline / aircraft?

Story and link to full accident report here:

And here's a YouTube video of heavy cloud cover landing from the cockpit. It's not the one I mentioned before, but it does show a landing where the first thing you see is approach lights.

Mandarin Airlines MD11, only 3 fatalities though, which considering what was left of the aircraft is a miracle!

That is low cloud! What's the aircraft, it's hard to tell.

Another one, not a cockpit job though again!

This is as good a reason as any not to land downwind!

After watching this video anyone explain the start up or throttle up of the one engine?

Can anyone explain why a pilot would land a jet aircraft at a feild closed to jets, whos runways are not even big enough for his type of aircraft even with winds calm?

There are some very good cockpit videos in bad (snow) weather at Milwaukee's Mitchell Airport. On flightlevel350.com do a search for Milwaukee under airports, there are about 5 of them from the same guy. You will find it.

There is one video where he does a walk around after the flight and you can see the ice crusted up on his plane - 2 inches of ice on the wingtip!

HKG was given credit for the quick reaction by sending ambulences and firefighters to the scene as fast as they could, and it was the first major accident at the CLK airport.

Could have something to do with the angle of tha aircraft in the water.
Might be a computer signal to TGA if the aircrafts computers FMCs where programed to do that. not sure.

As you can see the reg. no is OY-JET.
The owner bought another plane with the reg. no: OY-WET.
Yes believe it or not  biggrin

For the lazy ones...I suggest watching all of them. He's an incredibly skilled pilot with a pretty sizable crazy streak in him. All of the links are just incredible.

What a moron:

NYC05LA085
On May 15, 2005, at 1548 eastern daylight time, a Danish-registered (OY-JET), Cessna Citation 525A, was substantially damaged during a runway overrun at Atlantic City Municipal Airport/Bader Field (AIY), Atlantic City, New Jersey. The certificated private pilot received minor injuries, and three passengers received no injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan was filed for the flight which originated at the Burlington International Airport (BTV), Burlington, Vermont. The business flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91....

They were not.

The aircraft was piloted by the owner, Mr. Erik Tingleff Larsen, the founder of Weibel Scientific, to whom the aircraft was registered.

The aircraft was a writeoff.

At least Mr. Larsen has a sense of humor. His new jet, that replaces OY-JET, is registered OY-WET  rotfl

From a Citation Jet to a Cessna 680.... I'd call that quite the replacement aircraft.

The weather shown is all CAT I (550m), maybe borderline CAT II (300m). Thats not low cloud at all! Try CAT IIIb with 75m RVR.

In the Kai Tak night landing, I saw that the approach lights were curved, I did not know that before now, quite interesting. Thanks for posting all of the vids.

Wow- that was intense! We have KC-135 guys from the MKE 128th Air Refueling Wing here in GRR practicing all the time. Really enjoy having them here....

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but did it not say in the video that they couldn't divert because they would end up going over Iranian airspace.
