Although I don't like the whole Eurowhite trend, I have to say that the tail is really nice and the current Asiana colors are just awful, and this new scheme is quite an improvement, despite the mostly-white fuselage.

Nice tail... everything else just spells "B.O.R.I.N.G"...

The font for ASIANA is extremely uncreative and bland. I really cannot figure what the inverted "v" means... it's not eye-catching, and neither does it look like it means anything.

The livery basically looked like the designer had used TG's template to design OZ's livery.... mass produced designed.

Very disappointing livery. If they couldn't come up with anything better, I'd rather they keep their old livery.
There's always a better way to fly...

Very nice tailfin paint design but the rest is inspireless: 'eurowhite' livery. The airline logo is totally not matching with the tail: looks like they first designed the logo and later on they created the livery. Lesson nr. 1 in airline branding: when creating an airline logo start creating the aircraft paint design at the same time so that they match with eachother. Bad job!

ABSOLUTELY anything is better than the last one! Yes it is sedate however the old one looked amataurish and buzy and very 1986. The tail colors look like the sleave of a Korean woman's folk costume (like the old corporate logo) or of the tumblers that spin the long tail on their heads. I'm hopefull on of our Korean folks can clarify what I am trying to describe.

Whatever happened to the creativity on the planes ? Just call me conservative, but I don´t like the new liveries around there...white, white and more white.

I think that you should use another airline instead of AF, to make your point about a well pulled off Eurowhite color scheme.

At least Tap Portugal keeps it's planes clean.

Maybe they were ugly. I liked Asiana's livery because the scheme was therefore very distinghuishing and stylish... in my opinion they shouldn't have change anything. Maybe the grey miltary look and the barcode tailfin. If they would have oversized the Asiana brand symbol and put it on the tailfin it would have looked very nice.

I'm sorry I don't get it. You're from Lila design right? And you say they shouldn't change anything except the "military" and barcode tailfin..

Well if you changed that, then what's left? That's precisely what sets this scheme apart. The "barcode" is what makes it look so different, and in my opinion, good.

On first glance,

- Tail looks very much like Avianca.
- The gizmo thingy at the side right after "Asiana Airlines" looks very much like the Austrian Airlines' gizmo thingy.
- Overall livery concentration at the tail makes it looks very bland and uninteresting.

In summary, a product of copycat from Avianca and Austrian Airlines with a very high degree of boring Eurowhite sensitivity in mind.

Their current one is way better, although not really beautiful, at least it is bold and different.

Thanks for quoting. It's true what you're writing, the present 'barcode'-like tailfin is looking good. The present grey colour however could have been replaced by a sand colour or more blueish grey. If Asiana like to have something changed why not using the colourful Asiana fuselage logo (I mean not the new one but the one in the picture below) also on the tailfin instead of the 'barcode'. They would have make a good improvement.

I'm aware Asiana's board has choosen a new strategy but they forgot to design the logo and the aircraft paint design at the same time. I guess they first started with the logo, then Atlas-Blue in Morocco came on the market and then Asiana invented an interesting new design for the tailfin instead of putting their "A"-brandsymbol on the fin. The new Asiana tail fin paint design does look good but they forgot the rest and got blinded in the re-branding process.

To be clear: the new Asiana identity is not from my hand, neither the 'old' one.

Hi Owleye, your welcome. Bluish would be too common and a sand color in there that's something Saudi Arabian already did (foolishly changing their elegant green livery). I like the fuselage logo as much as you, but if you put that on the tail, it'll be just another tail with a logo on there basicallly, I don't know how that's an improvement. No other airlinee has the "barcode" as you call it. Therefore it's unique.

The gray is not a depressing tone like in old BA landor c/s. This is a gray with a hint of brown and lavender in there. Whoever designed it knew what they were doing. It has to be one, if not the moet elegant airline identity designed in the 90s.

Don't know if Asiana's now adopted Khumo tires logo is a good thing. Makes sense I guess since they want to integrate everything, but its weird to have an airline logo that's also a car tire. Like all of the sudden have AA ditch the eagle for GoodYear's winged shoe or something..

I won't even comment on the Atlas blue.. suffice to say it looks funny, similar to JAT airways dot scheme.

I like the new livery, it will be differnt to Korean Air's painted coloured top which I always felt was the inspiration for OZ's previous scheme, what I dont like is the Korean flag sitting in the middle of the design, infact it seems Korean carriers just have to have the flag on the tail when it can easily be accomodated on the fuselage, and whats the obsession with the UNICEF logo why are Korean and Japanese airlines so into Kids.

Yes indeed MIAMIx707, the current Asiana grey is very unique and warm. Maybe afterall it would have been better to keep it like that. The blue thin cheatline could have deleted. What a pitty that Asiana is trashing this stunnig livery. I.m.o. replacing the barcode-tailfin for the colourfull flag-like brand symbol in that particular scheme could still have been an option. By the way there are some airlines who have a 'barcode' like tailfin like Transaero, Air France and a bit, the rear banner decorated Singapore Airlines fin: ofcourse not the same like Asiana's. Nevertherless as you stated the present Asiana livery is very unique.

How would it have looked like when Asiana's new tailfin design, although slightly modified, when it would have been combined with the present fuselage (grey roof) design AND their present flag-like logo?

see if you can do a quick edit and post it. I don't think it will look as clean as it is now though. Personally I don't see much that can be done to alter the current paintscheme to improve it. I'd move the Asiana titles to the middle or right under the dividing line and paint them black, and see how that looks. Perhaps stretch the titles more and leave them where they are, but that's not much of a change either.

This is because the design of the logo was not done *just* for the airline, but for the holding company. Common font and red > used for each business unit. See:

Kumho Asiana Group
Kumho Petrochemical
Kumho Tires (UK)

The branding is not about the airline, but the trading group.

I knew it had to do with that 'holding' matter (it was in the press months ago) but that just do not justify this new unorganised, non-matching livery i.m.o. This has not much to do with branding an airline, attracting passengers but leading a business-business. As passenger I want to fly an airline not a trading group.

Finnair's livery used to be great, (and it wasn't too colorful either) but this current "lazy" white plane with tacky blue engines and some half a planet with some funny looking F, adorned by some lines... That's besides the dark blue depressing tone.

The interim livery Finnair uses on some 757s while eurowhite, is to me, a lot nicer. The font is better, the blue is nicer, and so is the inclusion of the logo at the front of fuselage.
