What Airlines Has Operated BAe 146/ Avro RJ & 737?

Sun Oct 22, 2006 11:33 am

A fleet pared with BAe 146/ Avro RJ and 737 classic is one of my favorite fleet next to an fleet pared with L 1011 and 757. So I wanted to know what airlines had both these aircraft in there fleet at the same time. I know AirCal did also Air France, British Airways and TNT do, so what other airlines did?

UA did, but the BAe's were flown by United Express under contract.

I think QF do/did as well. IIRC, the BAe 146's were operated on the behalf of QANTAS by National Jet Systems  Confused, and flew under the QANTAS Link branding.

QF use to operate BAe146s by National Jet but have now all been retired and replaced by ex JQ and QF B717s

Ansett also operated both. Ansett New Zealand first started flying with B731s before replacing them with new Bae146s.

AA flew both types at the same time, both coming from takeover of another airline (Aircal). Or was it Aircal and another carrier? I remember flying in an AA 146 while seeing an AA 732 on the runway out west.

I've flown thousands of flights in my life, but I still remember that one AA 146 flight. IIRC, it was LAX-SAN, as we flew EWR-SAN that year as we were considering moving to SAN from New Jersey. Never happened.

I sat right next to the engine on the A side.

Ever since I've wanted to own a 146. Maybe one day...

Edit: trying to remember why I only flew it once, but it came to me. The return was SAN-DFW-EWR on MD80 and 767. I remember now because I was sitting with my dad in row 1 and the F/A gave me a real bloody mary, not a mix like I asked for. I was 15 and asked my dad if it "tasted funny" to him. He said that's how they are supposed to taste and laughed...  Smile

Also US Airways (then US Air) who inherited PSA's BAe 146s when US bought PS. US didn't operate the 146s for long and then parked them in the desert.

If regional affiliates using the same livery (but separate companies) are included, Canadian Airlines had 737-200s and one of their regional partners, YHZ-based Air Atlantic, operated several BAe 146s. A couple of AC's regional carriers also operated about 10 146s and when Canadian merged with AC, AC became a 737-200 operator so AC also had both types. AC's 146s and 737s were retired a couple of years ago.

LH's regional affiliate still has a sizable Avro RJ/BAe 146 fleet and LH of course operates the 737-300/500.

FlyBe still do operate both types at the moment.

British Airways do, although the RJ's are part of BA Connect.

Aer Lingus also did for many years before both types were phased out.

Within a few of years of the AirCal take over, along with the 146s.

PSA operated both types, though at different times. When US bought PSA, they had the dual fleet for a time.

Debonair

Debonair operated the BAE 146-100 and B737-33A at the same time in 1999 before they went bankrupt.

Delta did at one point have both in their fleet as well, as EV briefly operated the BAe-146s under the Delta Connection banner in the mid-1990s. Business Express also operated them under the DL Connection banner as well.

I don't remember NWA having a B737-200. I have a book that goes back on their history and they show all the aircraft they have had in their fleet. And the B737 was not in it. If they had it for 10 years I think it would have been mentioned.

I have never seen a B737 in NWA colors in my whole time I have know them. North Central and Republic did not have this air craft.

Off course ASA was owned by DL so it counts

ASA not owned by Delta at the time they flew the BAe 146.

Thai Airways had BAE-146, 737-200, and 737-400 all at the same time around early 90's for about 5 years.

I thought they still flew under BA?

Indeed they do, using Saab 340's and a couple of Twotters. They are a BA franchise so still exist as an entitiy.
