Tue Oct 24, 2006 1:59 am

I keep reading of rumours that Easyjet have something up their sleeve's for Bournemouth Airport. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any further details rumours? I hear that Belfast is being considered.

Didn't LS try BOH to BFS then scrap it?

I remember reading a few months ago U2 was planning significant expansion for 2007. Nothing much has been revealed yet. I think BOH could work well as a base...

Jet2 never advertised their services, and so failed to fill their aircraft.

I think there's room for Easyjet, they could serve alot of destinations that for example Ryanair don't and wont.

At the current time, you'd hope that EZY didn't go anywhere near BOH. Flights cancelled, massive delays, BOH would be better with Ryanair

To start with:
Nice, Edinburgh, Belfast, Berlin, Murcia, Paris and Geneva (Geneva already served).

I agree on those respects, but if they did find the crew and their flights did operate on time then they would be a fantastic addition to the airport.

I'm currently at uni in scotland and still visit my family who live on the isle of wight and i fly out of edi or gla to SOU if its cheap enough but normally to LHR. PIK can be a pain to get to if your on an early flight and then BOU isn't good in the way of public transport. A direct link between EDI or GLA would be much better.

Would they wanna take on an already well-established Thomsonfly base though? I think BOH could do with a few regional routes from FlyBe and/or Air Southwest to be honest! But that's about it!

I doubt EZY would be too bothered about TOM. Plus there's quite a few routes they could serve from BOH that dont compete with TOM

My apologies, I didnt realise that the Thomsonfly base at BOH was actually so small, but I genuinely don't think there's room for two major LCC's down there! I think there's more call for an EZY base elsewhere in the UK before they consider BOH!

2 aircraft I think - but the point I was making is that 2 aircraft or 5 aircraft, TOM are no threat to Easyjet. Easyjet could easily force TOM out of BOH if they so wished with daily flights to ALC/AGP/PMI

Not really, but I do know that the reason Thomsonfly and Palmair are virtually the only airlines there goes to say something!

Yer with one of their largest UK bases practically just down the road Im really so foolish that I think that one would work aren't I? I was *in fact* referring to somewhere like EDI, or ORK, or even expand at their current bases, NCL could do with a few new routes, as could BFS, & GLA.

It has been a possibility that Air Southwest would serve Bournemouth, the most logical route being PLH-BOU, but the loadings on their PLH flights are pretty dire, even the LGW service so I don't see this happening. A route to NQY would not work, CWL possibly, but more likely would be LBA or MAN.

Hmm... I think more U2 expansion in mainland Europe is likely before much more UK expansion. I could be wrong.

Anyone from U2 on here who can reveal any info?

EMA could do with an expansion, especially after FR's decision to add 11 new routes there. WW arent adding anymore routes to EMA due to them focusing on BHX as their base so there is plenty of room for expansion for EZY.

Or maybe U2 will add new bases such as LBA or BHX to compete with already well established bases of other low cost airlines?

It wasn't intended as an insult, and the only two of them who are based at BOH, are TOM and Palmair, okay and maybe you could say FR too, that's what I meant!

They'd work with Air Southwest! The reason I say EZY wouldnt work is because the planes are too big! Someone like BE or WOW could make a nice little goldmine out of BOH though!

This would mean at least another aircraft would join the fleet, I know they have plans to double it, but currently there is nothing on order for them.

I tottally agree on the whole WOW thing, but Flybe? There half an hour away up the road - no need, although small talk a while back about the EMB's coming in here but I don't see that happening unless diverted for weather or traffic at Southampton.

Am I right in thinking that EZY hasn't added any new capacity to NEMA since Go opened the base 4/5 years ago

Not sure on capacity, but three routes have been launched:

(15 July 2006) Nottingham East Midlands to Ibiza
(9 June 2004) Nottingham East Midlands to Cologne/Bonn
(9 June 2004 ) Nottingham East Midlands to Rome
