Does anyone know what gates, concourse, or terminal that JetBlue will be operating out of ORD?

I think it is likely to be the America West gate as they will now being using the USAirways gate.

I dont see how US could afford to let go of this particular gate with all the flights that they oprerate to PIT, PHL, CLT, PHX, and LAS out of their two gates of F8 and F10. These two gates are always occupied and could barley handle what they had with them prior to the HP meger. You sometimes even have to sit in the penalty box for a little bit for one of these two gates to open when you are flying into ORD on US.

My guess would be for the former gate that DH subleased from CO right at the end of the E gates.

Interestingly enough, they don't really mention that the slots given to B6 used to belong to AA and UA, as was previously mentioned in other threads.

That's not totally accurate. The AA and UA slots have been gone for over two years, the last slots take back, by the FAA, were the slots from DH. So technically the slots really come from DH, since their slots were part of the 88 per hour cap and have been unused for 10months. (Read the FAA letter.)

Everyone is so quick to say UA and AA are getting screwed in this deal, but you forget B6 gave AA slots in LGB and these ORD slots were the DH slots. I am a UA Premier Exec and have flown UA all my life, but yet I strongly support competition and allowing B6 to come in, i will still fly UA. Stop whining and check the facts.

I think one of the news clips I watched said E8. Here's a clip:

Whoa. Rest assured, you're not the only UA Premier Exec out there (hint). Furthermore, I really have no vested interest in what B6 does seeing as how I live in Honolulu. My surprise in the the Tribune article comes as a result of reading them for the better of 20+ years; they almost always bend over backwards to spin UA in a positive light (add Boeing to that last nowadays). The aforementioned article, however, reads much like a B6 press release.

JetBlue gives you additional amenities at an affordable and reasonable fare. To many this will be an incentive.

But once you get past the $36 sales, B6's fares aren't really that exciting, especially for connections over JFK. AA and UA have pretty reasonable fares in the NYC market, and they offer the flexibility of EWR and LGA, which are more convenient for most travellers to the New York area.

Quoting JetBlueAUS (Reply 42):
While some of the air travel consumers prefer this, most just want to get to their destinations with reasonable and affordable fares. Not everyone can afford First Class or E+.

Certainly true, but the elites who are getting free upgrades are going to be tough to bring into the B6 fold, and those tend to be the folks who bring in the profits.

So my questions are.. where do they get the slot for LGB? Why $36!!!!!!

They were awarded a 28th mainline slot relinquished by FedEx about 5 weeks ago in LGB.

Because CO and WN/ATA have matched them. They are going to make them bleed on this route...

I expect so -- this is a tough business. All the same, I'm glad B6 has added HOU and now ORD, as it fills holes in their route network, which has been pretty much the primary reason I haven't yet flown them.

because they spend thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars per year flying with a carrier...

I fly only AA, even if it means going out of my way or spending more or having to deal with other inconveniences..I think it would be wise for AA to go a little bit out of their way....UA didn't do that with me, now they they lost all of my business=thousands/year...as I travel every few weeks..including internationally during peak travel days.....if they are happy with that, so be it....

I won't argue that those particular customers bring a lot more (financially) to the round table. But you're comparing apples and oranges here. AA offers a lot more to those customers (first class seats, wider variety of destinations here and abroad, meals, etc etc etc) who are willing to pay those thousand upon thousands. jetBlue (much as I love the company) and other LCCs around the US simply don't offer that. Our product is great, but it's aimed to compete with the average-everday coach product offered domestically, not the product that the elite purchase. So, in the short *and* long run, I woud be extremely surprised if we were to gain some of those customers. Don't forget, too, that AA's and B6's business plans are different, and have different perspectives with regard to what kind of customer brings in profits.  smile  Cheers

It irritates me to hear this old argument against FF elites. Earlier this year, I relocated and asked CO if they would match my status on AA. They were nice enough to do so, and as a direct result of that, I eventually booked about $4,000 on business and personal travel on CO in the next few months.

But for frequent flier benefits, I undoubtedly would have split up my travel over a number of carriers. Instead I flew CO whenever they offered a route I needed at a time I needed. Now, maybe FF programs are a net loss to the airline -- that's a question we could discuss -- but the people who get free upgrades are the people that have "earned" it, by sending thousands and thousands of dollars to the carrier that grants them status.

But here's the problem with this at ORD. With plenty of service to LGA and EWR (and the other SoCal aiports) and fairly reasonable fares due to the competition, B6 is going to have to undersell everyone once the novelty factor wears off. I just don't know if that's sustainable. I'm not saying B6 will fail. But I do think they have an uphill battle, the likes of which they are yet to face in a new station.
