FYI for those interested.

In order to prepare for the increase in Cargo demand and to gear up for the 2004 Super Bowl as well as perhaps the 2012 Olympics, the Houston Airport System has embarked on an aggressive expansion program for the three Houston Area Airports.

William P. Hobby

A new single 20 gate concourse will be built solely for Southwest. Concourse A will be redesigned to allow future 757 service from other airlines. Taxiways will be relocated to facilitate 757 service as well.

Ellington Field

New General Aviation hangers will be constructed.
ILS Upgrade to allow for expanded cargo flights and diversions.

G. Bush Intercontinental

A new runway is under construction- 8L-26R
South Taxiway bridge and apron expansion
New Air Mail facility
Runway 15R-33L upgrade and bypass taxiway
New, state-of-the-art air cargo facility will be constructed to allow up to 20 widebody aircraft and will provide more than 550,000 square feet of bulding space.
A consolidated car-rental facility
The Hardy Toll Road connector is already operational
Terminal A North Concourse reconstruction
Terminal A/B garage
Automated People mover will be extended to other terminals.
Terminal C garage expansion
IAB Terminal Expansion will accomodate an additional 5 widebody, 4 narrowbody, and six regional jet simultaneously on the south side of the existing IAB.
IAB Apron Expansion will allow additional aircraft to be placed on hardstand.

I'm pretty bored right now-hence the long post.

I thought the 2012 Olympics were going to be up I-45 in Dallas?

I was actually on the website last night and saw the new terminal renderings for IAH and HOU. HOU looks great, it should be really nice when it's finished.

Ahh-Dallas-so We Meet Again

I forgot Dallas was in the running too
Before the separate city's got their bids together, remeber when they were gonna try to market it as a collaborative Texas 2012 with events in Houston, Dallas, and other cities?

Eventhough Dallas is smaller than Houston, I have to hand it to you guys -- ya'll can get the ball rolling on things -- like DART.
Houston finally will have a rapid transit system. I love Houston, but the politics here are amazing.

I remeber they had Carl Lewis plugging the Texas 2008 (not 2012) at the Atlanta Games. That would have been neat if they could have done it, but the logistics would have been tough.

Dallas has made its share of stupid mistakes. I'm actually surprised DART even saw the light of day. It was supposed to be this grand subway/light rail system but the cheap asses only wanted a cheap light rail that won't serve nearly all the people a rail system should, IMHO. Now everybody loves DART and can't get enough. It just goes to show how people (voters) live in the now and not in the future.

I would like to see DAL make some improvements as well. There has been talk now that AA has dropped all legal action against DAL long haul that it will be a matter of time before the Wright Amend is repealed, then expansion at DAL can begin. They need to start with the Master Plan review in November to start thinking forward and not in the now.

They should really improve that tram thing that goes inbetween the concoures at IAH, that thing is a piece of crap.

Actually, a monorail now exist between Terminal C and Terminal B. The Monorail will be extended to A and IAB, construction has now begun. The underground monorail WAS state-of-the-art back in the late 60s early 70s when IAH came online, however they now are outdated.
When was the last time you travelled to IAH?
