G-BNWZ's Weird Interior!

Thu Nov 09, 2006 3:51 am

I saw a photo of G-BNWZ's interior on a certain other site...

... and wondered... why has it got a different overhead locker type to any other 767 I've ever seen?!

Anyone know?

Do you have a link to the photo?

I shouldn't really post it here, as I believe linking to "that other site" is banned.

However, find a site very similar to this one and do a cabin photos search for G-BNWZ

Are you telling me that people from A.net are not allowed to link things with other sites, even if it's jetphotos???

If that's true, it's simply PATHETIC on too many levels. Very childish as well.

Back to the topic...
Just looked at the photo, and yeah, I've also never seen that type of overhead bins before. Was BA always the operator of that aircraft, or was it with a different company before?

Delivered to BA in 97, brand new.

If it's the most recent picture for that bird, it looks like a standard 767-300ER cabin. My UA three-class 767-300ER had the same overhead bins and lighting/HVAC on Sunday.

I imagine it has to do with courtesy. If images posted on this forum are "hot-linked" from the host site, it uses that site's bandwidth in addition to airliners.net. Also, that site has their own copyrights on images hosted on it and that copyright may prohibit airliners.net from showing them. So it's common courtesy (amongst other things) for airliners.net to respect those copyrights.

Just had a look, and yes, the side lockers do look a little bit different to the norm. They seem to curve in at the centre, whereas on other aircraft they are flat/flush.

Posting a link to the photo is nothing bad, and shouldn't break any rules. We post link to many things all over the web daily, many things copyrighted.
When we have an aviation question and referencing to a pic on a.net is impossible because the pic isn't in the database, it shouldn't restrict us from posting a link to the address of the photo on another site. That is simply irrational.
I bet you the real reason is because of the dumb (personal) rivalry between the admins of the sites.

Very true.

If linking to an image's URL (and not embedding the actual picture into the post) is forbidden, that would be odd.

Agreed, that's what I was referring to. Embedding the pic is definitely wrong. I don't even think it's possible!

P.S. For convenience here is the link. http://jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5846802 now let's see if I get banned)  Yeah sure

That's a UA three-class 767-300ER... and that's the standard cabin...

G-BNWZ was amended about 5 years ago by BA engineers to make the overhead lockers bigger when BA was trialling a more generous hand baggage offer on short haul.

The trial was deemed unsuccesful, but BA kept the aircraft as it is today.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Alan.

Ahh... did they just take the existing overhead lockers, screw on an extra bit, and bend the doors? That's what it looks like!  cheeky

That's the one! Engineers literally added a strong piece of plastic forward of the lower part of the lockers and installed new doors. It added around 4 inches of width per locker.

The idea was to be able to place wheelies sideways on the 767 like you can on the Airbus fleet.

It's fricken ugly and reminds me of early DC-10s..looks old. Even the DC-10s NWA updated look newer then that. If BA wanna do something, I'd suggest installing pivital bins made by Heathtechna. Then it would really breath some life back into the 767s.

That's a matter of personal opinion and preference. I don't think the upgrade was done on the basis of good looks, but more on the basis of larger storage space for customers.

Why should they, the 767s are the first on the list of retiring planes in the fleet.

Those are hideous bins! For a plane delivered in 1997, the interior looks very dated. I know both AA and CO had 767s delivered in recent years and they all feature 777 style pivot bins. They couls have at least found something a little more attractive.

Coincidence? I doubt it!!  Smile
That interior looks like it is from 1982, not 1997 or later. Ugly. Oh well, I still like BA and the 767 and would gladly fly on this or any others in their fleet.

Why would anybody sit in the middle seats on a flight this empty? Go for the window, dude!!!
None shall pass!!!!

The 767 interior was never particularly attractive to begin with, but this is pretty dire.

But then, as already said, it wasn't done for looks; nor would there have been any point in doing so.
