Well... it's better than that hideous Wonder Woman jet livery! The tailfin logo looks like something out of 1977 though. Still... ehhh ok

However, I like it much better than WN's color concepts.. and it's so refreshing to see something than EuroWhite....

But where is it going to go?

From the website:

The Skybus Story

All of us at Skybus love what is at the heart of the airline business — flying people from where they are to where they want to go. But there are a few things we don’t love about it, namely:

High fares
Connecting flights through busy airports
Uncomfortable, small regional airplanes
Late arrivals
Lost bags
Unfriendly service

We have a plan to change all of that. And we have quite a few people, both investors and employees, who have a lot invested in believing we can change it. The plan is simple — to give you, the traveler, what you want. Which is why with Skybus, you’ll get:

Really low fares
Nonstop service to major destinations
New 150-seat jet aircraft
On-time arrivals
Luggage that arrives when you do
A smile
You may not believe it, and judging by what’s been happening with airlines over the years, we don’t blame you. So we’re going to prove it.

All that’s left to do now is wait and watch.
Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.

I mean, who owns this airline, did the members of ABBA decide to move to Columbus OH and start up an airline? It looks like something of the type...

Perhaps they'll name one of the A319s "dancing queen"... Friday night and the lights are low; lookin out for a place to go... like ORD or JFK...  Smile

heh, I don't wish bad upon any company, because that affects the lives of tons of people. But there is no way this can even be remotely successful. Americans love low fares, but I don't think Americans are willing to put up with Ryanair level of comfort in the aircraft. Just because it has 150 seats, doesn't mean its going to be more comfortable then an RJ. I'd assume we can expect plastic seats and the whole lack of 9 yards on the inside.

150 seats in a 319? ouch!!!! B6 does 156 on a 320....airbus sez 134 at 32 inch pitch on the 319.

From the website:
2. Where will Skybus fly?
We’re still in the process of selecting our destinations, but we can say we’ll be going to some pretty exciting places.

Hmmm guess most anywhere will be exciting compared to CMH...grin

Well, the livery's an improvement over what they had on their website before. It's better than Southwest's, although that might qualify as damning with faint praise...  Silly

I'm not sure that the ultra-low-fare concept won't play in the US, I just have strong doubts about starting it in a city with a relatively small O&D market.

They should have opted for the A319's with two over wing emergency evacuation exits. They could have then added an extra row of seats in, like easyJet in the UK do to squeeze in 156 seats!  Wink

Not too sure what to think of the new livery, but all can say is... Its different and very bright! (Some one pass me a sick bag... Im not feling to good!  ill  )

What is the airline's motto going to be... "This is the dawning of the age of aquarius?"

What will the IFE be, digging the dancing queen and dancing the disco? Did Gloria Gaynor apply to be one of the F/As? How about Donna Sommer, Amii Stewart, Alicia Briges? Is Barry White going to be a pilot?

Taste is a funny thing. I am here reading comments like refreshing, nice, different etc.

I agree different it is, refreshing and nice I am not so sure about. It's just weird. But in an effort to get away from the 'eurowhites' Skybus gets some point.

Now lets see how success plays out for them.

Awesome look for the A319, unique color. Also, glad it's not boring blue as always!

This cool paintscheme brings variety, and much needed color diversity to US airports.

Based purely on the 737 used in the previous version of their paint scheme, when did they change over to Airbi, or were 737s ever even ordered?

Oh I like retro myself... How about all of that stuff from the 70s and 80s becomming popular again... Carebears? My Little Pony? RAINBOW BRIGHT??? (not that I ever played with that stuff. I am sure some boys have, with the addition of bottle rockets... Even they had some psychological disorder and required some help if they did stuff like that to anyone. I just did that to empty pop cans and watched them jump 4 feet in the air.)

Anyway... yeah... groovy. I still like the old USAir livery from the early 80s though. Inspite of the fact that it was orange red and brown... That stuff was in back in the 70s man! DIG IT?

M-The change to the A319s occured about 3 weeks ago when they signed a deal with Airbus for 65 of them. The 737-800 was supposed to be the airplane of choice, based on the press photo that was sent out when the airline was first being developed.

Now, more importantly, noting the fleet number of 521 on the nose gear, dare I say that the first Virgin America A319 has already been repainted as their first one was N521VA? Sigh, another lost A319 not shot on slide film...

Color scheme aside, Skybus may be a very interesting airline if they adopt the Ryanair game plan that I think they're going towards, based on the number of execs from the Ireland airline heading to CMH.

I wonder if GYY will see this service here as well as the other airline operated by Xtra Airways.

What is the Ryanair game plan? Is it secondary markets? tertiary markets? Or do they go for the big dogs?So if they wanted to fly to ATL from CMH.. would they choose ATL or Athens? MSY or BTR? ORD or Fort Wayne? MSP or Rochester, Mn? BOS or Worcesher? Ya know what I mean?

well, I'm not too familiar with U.S. airports, but Ryanair is certainly in choosing tertiary markets and labelling them as primary... so for instance they are going to HHN (which is about 2 hours by bus from FRA) and call it "Frankfurt", to Lübeck and call it "Hamburg" (distance about 100km), to Treviso and call that "Venice", to NRN and call it "Düsseldorf" and so on.... it started all with claiming STN to be a London airport, I guess... they also have been notorious of not caring for their customers at all in case of a cancelled flight and abandon them to their fate... don't know if that has changed with the new EU regulations in force (I never flew them personally and hopefully never will).

compared with your examples it seems to be like going to BTR and calling that "New Orleans", to Idaho Falls and claiming it to be Salt Lake City or somewhere around Albany, NY, instead of New York City.

With a name like that,

I'm kinda suprised it doesn't look something like this:

Big version: Width: 288 Height: 194 File size: 57kb

Although the livery they have apparently chosen is a little on the 60's/70's side (and not attractive  Wink ), let's all give their marketing department a high five for not choosing a Eurowhite, we'll be gone tomorow so might as well preserve the resale value of the plane paint scheme Big grin

A319's maximum number of passengers is 145. Any idea how they plain to get 150 certified?

By removing all those smelly, space-hogging, money-losing lavatories? Oh wait, I have a better idea: set the cabin thermostat at 79, charge $2 for bottled water, and 3 bucks to use the head!  ill

And out West, let's see, Palm Springs could be the gateway to all of So Cal (would they call it "LA" or "San Diego"? How about Bellingham for SEA and YVR? And I'm sure Concord would love being the Bay Area Gateway for all those Flying Kumquats!  thumbsup

Between Virgin America and Skybus, this country is gonna be absolutely crawling with Airbi! As I've said many times lately, 2007 is going to be one helluva year!

Regardless of whether Skybus is a success or not, I like those colours a lot. Can't have too little white paint on a plane. wave

Well, they've already broken one promise: A 150 seat A319? Forget comfortable.

That said, if they are going to go with a "ultra low fare concept", they will need to fill every single seat on that A319...all 150 of them.

I just thought about one thing: To our Airbus experts, what is the max certification for pax on the 319?

They did get one thing right...their name: Skybus. A 150 seat 319 will be about like sitting in a bus in the sky.

I don't think carriers like Southwest or JetBlue have much to worry about.
