I hate it when these news stories don't get "technical"...what equipment is AC38?

Hope the F/A's recover quickly

I am sure there are 6000 INJURED across the country daily which smack their heads, stub their toes ... and so forth on a plane... why are they not recorded to. This is just a shot at Air Canada's name . Like seriously what is the point in broadcasting something like that? The equipment was proabably a 762.

I somehow suspect it's a little more than just somebody getting a bruised arm.

Could it be because 4 FAs were injured enough so that they might not be able to perform their duties in case of an emergency, thus the plane needs to land and get a new crew?

Flightaware shows that ACA38 is generally a 763.

Well it is not the first time an ac hit bad turbulence's and people get hurt....
and it shows clearly even if the belt sign is off it always pays to stay buckled up....  Wink

Hope the f/a's are recovering fast and all the best to them.

Ac has to wait until new cabin crew arrive.....

Cheers,

Sad to hear about the injured FA's.
Wasn't there an incident with a JL B747 encountering strong turbulence in that area which saw a lot of injuries.

You can tell it's a Sunday (Weekend) or a slow news day..

yes, pretty serious for the people on board.. No to make it onto CNN.com and other newspapers. LOL

Glad everyone will be okay though!

Actually it did make CNN. I think when 4-5 passangers get hurt from turbulence it is news worthy. In fact, something positive might come out of it with more people wearing the seatbelts while flying.
Remember people have been killed by suddent turbulence.
News worthy? Yes!!

I agree, it's not an everyday event and if it did force the pilots to divert their plane from their scheduled routing then there is some newsworthiness to it especially with injurred people. The television news life of such a story though should be very very short, if it isn't then there's a slow news day or something wrong with the TV news channel.

One thing no one mentioned was the plane was quite full...which 763ER version was it..the one with 30 lie-flat seats or the one with 25 lie-flat seats (according to seatguru.com)?

Right now there's only 1 763ER in service that has the new interiors. More than likely it was one with the standard seats.

It is indeed great that everybody is safe and the plane landed safely. The atmospheric area over and around japan is known for severe weather phenomenon. Does anyone remember a case of severe turbulence that a JAL flight encountered in 1997? In that case there was one fatality and several severe injuries.

Even though this incidence did not result in serious injury, it must have afflicted atleast some of the passengers with fear of flying. How much ever one reads about how safe modern airliners and flying in general are, a case of moderate/severe turbulence can cause lot of mental stress. I am not complaining. It is great that we live in an age in which we can travel thousands of Kms safely in a matter of hours.

Why does 99% of the media not know the difference between a real "emergency landing" and a "precautionary landing"?
For example: they have specialist for subjects like economics, woman (yes, our newspaper has a "woman" addition) etc., but they don't have a clue what they are writing about aviation......

sometimes the media makes me realy sick  bomb

I tend to disagree, I think there are some very good reporters out there in regards to aviation.
Also, if 5 passengers are hurt, would this not be an emergency landing? I don't think emergency landings dictate it is only done because something is wrong with the actual airplane.

That's my question..which one (I don't know how their setup is now)?..

I flew back from LHR last week on 333ER C-FMXC and that had the new interior (or 'extreme makeover' / XM project) - but i cant seem to find anything on the specific numbers of seats in each class, there are threads here about it but that info doesnt seem to appear anywhere, and its not on AC's website, or seatguru.

btw, i was actually contemplating starting a thread when i got in about the PTV's and the way they like to cut out half way through a movie and refuse to let you view it again until 3 hours later, the games dont work yet, the map doesnt work yet, most of the music channels dont work yet... but the guy upstairs decided to have a bath and empty the contents through my ceiling, and that annoyed me even more, so that i forgot about the stupid AC PTV's... and its the old CP 275 non ER's you want to avoid... still used on YYZ / YVR
