I would guess it's because there's no market! You could substitute Ireland for any number of countries, an airline won't just start service unless there is a market for it.

Plus for Ireland passengers can just connect to AMS/FRA/CDG/LHR etc and transit through.

It seems that EL AL tried about 25 years ago to get a direct link between Tel Aviv and Dublin but it was rejected in its application by the Irish Government. Overall Ireland doesn't seem to have many flights outside of Europe and the Eastern U.S. so it is not as if all surroundign airports are serviced. There are one stop options avilable from many European cities including London and Amsterdam though.

Bahrain operated by GF and Dubai operated by Aer Lingus are the only long-haul services out of Ireland apart from routes to the US and Canada.

I suppose neither Aer Lingus or EL AL see a market there but there is huge demand for flights to the middle east and Asia.

While one might suspect that with Ireland being a 95%+ Christian and of that 85%+ Roman Catholic, they would be interested in visiting Israel. Problems are 1) there is probably very little direct trade/business demand for direct flights and 2) Those sites of greatest interest to Christians as tourists, like Bethelem, are in the Palastitian Terrorities and difficult to access via Israel due to obious reasons.

The Republic of Ireland's population of around 4.2 million is smaller than that of many cities that also do not hace a direct air link with Israel. With the major interchanges of the likes of LHR, AMS, FRA and CDG located between airports such as DUB, ORK and SNN and TLV it is hardly surprising that Ireland does not have a direct air serice to TLV.

I'm sorry, but this is not correct.

Firstly, for a tourist with a European passport, it's actually very easy to cross over from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. I've done it several times.

Secondly, most Christian holy sites are anyway located in Israel itself, e.g. in Jerusalem, Nazareth, and the Sea of Galilee. There are only a few Christian holy places in areas controlled by the Palestinian territory.

El Al was turned down by the Irish Government a while ago. There were rumours a few years ago there would be service. However Israir offers charter flights.
