Q. 777 Range Performance USA-India Routes

Sun Dec 24, 2006 12:24 pm

Now that the direct USA to India flights on 772ERs have been going on for a while how is the 772ER performing? (American ORD-DEL, Continental EWR-DEL, Delta JFK-BOM).

Have there been many instances of a 772ER having to make a stop to refuel while going in either direction? If so, is this a frequent occurence?

(Facts only! No guesses!)

I have freinds that fly the ord to del once a month and have not had any problems other than missing connections in ord.. But that has got to be one of the longest flight from the U.s,,,, anyone Know of one longer???

They all have to get up and walk after several hours as their legs nearly fall a sleep

I know EWR-HKG is longer, and EWR-PEK is close to EWR-DEL in length..The longest US flight is EWR-SIN...I believe...

Well my question is still there for the US-India nonstops. . .

Have there been any refueling stops due to headwinds or any range issue for the 772ER?

In practice, is the 772ER running with a full passenger load on these routes?

So far I have yet to hear of any compatibility issues with the 772 and these routes in terms of range and "marketable" capacity. . .

This is the block time (Gate to Gate). The flight time is less. I flew this earlier this month and flight time was 17hr and about 30 min from EWR-SIN

Nicotine addicts desiring to feed their addiction on an airliner can get their narcotic of choice in the form of chewing gum or a patch.

I can only speak for the DL JFK-BOM-JFK flights, which are longer than AA and CO's DEL flights. Since the start of operations in November, there have been no refueling stops on the BOM flights in either direction. The eastbound, of course, is not a problem and has been going out with 100% pax. loads consistently; however the westbound I believe has load limitations, especially with 16 hour in-air flight times on some recent days. They have also reduced weight by taking out duty-free carts as well as other non-essential mid-galley catering carts, etc.

One stop is fine, but two turns into a hassle....

Personally, it depends on where I'm sitting as to whether or not I need a stop or not....

My family and myself have travelled on AA ORD-DEL several times this year. On the west bound, routinely the flights are load restricted to about 210 passengers max. This makes is harder for non-revs sincethey are ones getting bumped off.

One I even saw loads restricted to 195 pax ... and this flight has a capacity for 245 pax.
Airlines I have flown - IC, 9W, KF, AI, LH, BA, LX, CO, DL, UA, SQ, MH, AA

And to think this used to happen SNN-JFK when Aer Lingus operated B720's on the route! That or a stop in Gander west-bound.

I have no memory of this place.

Well maybe AA needs to buy some 772LR's for the route so that they have no load restrictions  Smile

Do the 777s used by AA or Delta have the GE engines rated at 92000 lbs of thrust ?

Well at CO, before you book a flight on employee reservation, for flights to DEL, PEK and HONG KONG, you are adviced to also seek alternate airline tickets as thes flight are heavily weight restricted due to the enormous amont of fuel they have to carry for the long trip back to the USA, the aircraft might and will/does leave with lots of empty seats.

AA's are all RR Trent 892's...

DL's are RR's Trent 892's also..

DL's new 777-200LR's will be GE-90's (only engine choice)...
