Asiana Buys 2 77E, 2 321, 1 330, 1 320

Thu Jan 04, 2007 11:55 am

ASIANA Airlines said on 04JAN07 that it'll sign orders for 2 777-200ER with Boeing, 2 321/1 330/1 320 with Airbus.

It said it was also considering order 2 additional 320.

"said on Thursday it had ordered six passenger planes from Airbus and Boeing Co. for delivery this year"

If this report is accurate, then when the airline says "buy" they are referring to taking delivery of previously ordered aircraft (all the types mentioned Asiana does have on order), not purchasing new aircraft. I can state categorically that there is no way Asiana could buy a 777 or A330 today and receive it by the even the end of this year.

Oh, I'm fairly sure that GE will get their share in 2007. And, alas, most of everyone else's share too...  Sad

I'm confusing myself, too. But Asiana actually no more has left orders for A321 and 320, so 2 A321 & 1 A320 seem new order, or leasing. Asiana has 3 more 777s to be delivered, and 2 of them will be this year (according to the news). Likewise, Asiana has 1 more A330 to be delivered, and it will be this year. Or maybe whole are new orders, I'm not sure yet.

Anyway good news for Asiana, they will get 6 (maybe 8) more new aircraft this year!

So then they are being an attention whore, trying to get people to notice them after KE's big order.

Per corrected report from Reuters:

Airbus: 1 A330-300 for delivery in 2007; 2 A321-200 and 1 A320 via Leasing, 2 A320 pending

Boeing: 2 B777-200ER for delivery in 2007

Still, it does NOT make 100% sure that these all are new orders, or just "confimations" of already existing orders
Flown: A319/320/321,A332/3,A343/346, A359, A380,AT4,AT7,B712, B732/3/4/5/7/8/9,B742/4,B752/3, B762/763,B772/77W,CR2/7/9/K,ER3/4,E70/75/90/95, F50/70/100,M11,L15,SF3,S20, AR8/1, 142/143,... 330.860 miles and counting.

Asiana being my favorite international airline, I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will order a 748i

As some have already mentioned, these appear to be no new orders. The widebodies were ordered a long time ago. The narrowbodies will be leased.

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070105/skorea_airline_order.html?.v=1

Of the four Airbus planes -- which include two 321-200s, one 330-300 and one 320-200 -- three are leased, said Lee Cha-youn, an Asiana spokeswoman.

The Boeing planes are two 777-200ERs, both of which Asiana purchased.

The three purchased planes were all ordered in 1996, while the other aircraft were leased late last year, Lee said.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

OZ did say earlier this year that it would possibly place an order for the A380 and 787 in 2006. It ruled out the 748i and A350 (previous version).

I wonder what the leasing was about. How many aircrafts.. (more than these three or not?) and lease from which company, how many years.. etc. Do you have any idea?

Hopefully the 772er's will be replacing the 747 Combi's!

Ahhh. I rather like the 7474M. I don't know, I am just a 747 fan. I also find them much more comfortable to sleep on then a T7. Since the seat is closer to the side of the aircraft in a 74.

Oh, I'm fairly sure that GE will get their share in 2007. And, alas, most of everyone else's share too... Sad

All those aircraft with exclusive GE power are starting to break up some of the old allegiances of airlines to PW or RR. GE's Engine Alliance isn't doing so wonderfully, though from the sounds of it, they are turning out CFM56's and GE90s as fast as they can make them, and they are doing a pretty sound business on the CF34's as well (as the engine de jour for regional jets). GEnx looks to be doing well between 787 orders and the 748i, which has been selling steadily, and hopefully they'll offer an engine for A350-1000 this year (if anyone can find the means to get some more juice out of GEnx (you'd think they could with a modified GE90 core), they will. So hopefully A350 might generate some orders for them.

RR will likely pick up some orders off of A350 this year, continue to do a steady business on Trent 1000 from 787, the IAE V2500s are still selling for A320, and perhaps even some orders for A330? It could happen.

With the red hot 777 line shifting from RR and PW being great sellers on 772ER to the now 773ER and 772LR making up most of the sales in the 777 line, and only offering GE90 power, that shifts in GE's favor. It also appears as if GE will take something better than half of the 787 orders, and all of the orders which 748 generates.

RR in my most humble estimation will continue its strong sales advantage on A380 over EA (esp. now with UPS cancelling) and will likely take a majority of A350 sales as well, as they are offering a full lineup, whereas so far GE is only offering A358 and A359 power.

PW, sadly is resigned to its sales of IAE V2500, which is a great engine, though in the shadow of the ubiquitious CFM56, which finds itself under thousands of 737s and A320s, as well as whatever PW6000 sales they get from A318, and whatever other assorted A330 and 772ER sales they get for PW4000, like these!
