Air Berlin To Ras Al-Khaimah

Tue Jan 09, 2007 3:18 pm

From ATWOnline (09JAN07)

Quote:
Air Berlin will start a weekly Munich-Ras Al Khaimah service from Feb. 10 aboard 737-800s. It will be the first AB flight to the Persian Gulf and will be operated for a German tour company.

AB had plans to fly to DXB a while ago, but these were apparently dropped when the tour operator in question bowed out.

So is Ras al-Khaimah more cheaper to use for the tour operators instead of Dubai, I suppose?

Most likely not, since it seems to be a full charter. I was looking forward to spending some of my TOP BONUS miles for such a trip, but it seems like these flights can only be booked via www.ltur.com.

Does anyone know if ZED subload tickets can be used? for example both Condor and Finnair have schedules loaded into Amadeus to DXB, I am able to purchase the relevant ZED tickets however I am told by Finnair employee that staff travel is banned on the leisure 757 Flights even if they are selling tickets outside the tour operators allocation. I would imagine the Condor flights would be acceptable as they are all charter seeing as my company stipulates that the LH tickets are also valid on DE.

Condor is far from being all charter, they actually sell quite a bit of seats directly on most of their flights.

Should also be more convenient for the pax.
Not only have I read about long queues & waiting times at DXB recently, but a collegue of mine accompanied her husband on a business trip to DXB 27-DEC thru early JAN-2007 and complained about 1.5 hour to clear immigration & retrieve luggage (this was EK midnight arrival bank from Europe). Add to that heavy road traffic past midnight and early morning (for return flight).

BTW
Flights are out of MUC:
Saturday: depart MUC 1915h arrive Ras Al Khaimah 0420h+1
Sunday: Depart Ras Al Khaimah 0520h arrive MUC 0855h
Feed from HAM, DUS, DRS and TXL on AB/DI.

From EK intranet..

Air Berlin GMBH Co. Luftverkehrs KG
AB Germany

Subload Travel
% Discount Class Faretype Eligibility
- Y ZED Service Charge - ZM Employee, Retiree, Spouse, Children under 24years & Parents

Looks like AB do have ZED agreements

Now can anyone tell me if a zed ticket can be used on this new flight?

Etihad staff can also get ZED tickets on Air Berlin, so it seems they are part of the ZED agreement.

The crews will spend a week at the destination until they return with the next flight back home - this must be the longest layover in AB's entire network.

Is this confirmed or speculation?
Might be a way how AB could honour crew for their work ...

If the flight will be published as a scheduled flight (even with a majority of seats sold to the tour operator), the answer is most probably yes. If the flight will be operated as a full charter flight (the whole aircraft chartered by the tour operator), the answer is no. So far I have not seen anything published on Amadeus, so I assume it will be a full charter.

FlyNiki has also some weekly flights from VIE to DXB but it is all sold to a CruiseShipoperator and ZED cannot be used on these flights as the whole A/C + Crew is leased. I suppose it is the same with AB flights to Ras Al Kaimah.

Might be, but AB is no "traditional" LCC. Plus they have their roots in the traditional charter business ...

What I wrote: they are chartered for cruise ships.... nobody gets into DXB. Just on the ship and back.

Would be the same if they charterd a Lufthansa bird.

That's rather an inefficient use of resources. They should be able to heavy-crew the rotation and operate it as a turn on extended duty-time basis.

Last minute specialist L'tur is selling a lot of 7/14-night stays in hotels in the UAE making use of this very AB-flight. Hotels span over an area from Khorfakkan to Abu Dhabi. As these appear to be package tours, they will include transport between arport and hotel on the travel agency's expense, thus making them responsible should a transport arrive too late at the airport for departure ...

Indeed. That's why I was very surprised about this information, too. They could also interchange crews with some of their many weekly HRG- or SSH-flights.

It took us one and a half hours to get from RAK to SHJ, and then one more hour to get to DXB-Airport.

Hm, one argument for booking the Ltur-packages to the gulf were the flights with QR or GF via DOH or BAH.  Wink
