Why not A319LR is Longe Range and the flights DOH-ARN is max 6hours.

Operationally it could easily be done, but I too would reckon they'd kick it off with a widebody of some sort. The ambitious M.E. carriers are going for volume; something the 319 wouldn't have, to feed their routes onwards.

Quoting Codeshare (Reply 46):
I don't know whether they might be joining routes like DOH-WAW-ARN for example?

No way. Firstly it would make the route less attractive from ARN, which means lower yields in addition to the higher operating costs, secondly they would have to be granted 5th freedom on WAWARN; flying the last leg half empty would be far too costly. Even if they got 5th freedom I reckon it wouldn't be a good idea; in the liberalized European air travel market 5th freedom in most cases is dead. But I for one would fly (CPH)-ARN-WAW on QR if I was going to Poland!  Smile

There's a sizeable population from Poland in Australia post WW2, and QR would be the only long haul carrier serving the destination.

A sizeable population who have practically no roots back to Poland. Their family would all be in Australia now and there would be even Great grandchildren of these WW2 veterans. I don't mean this dis-respectfully but the probably have no interest in going to Poland and if they did, they would be a minute minority.

QR is famous for their new routes publicity stunts. Remember the launch of Naigpur, Bucharest, Washington... sorry JFK... NO Washington... then there was Australia - actually nope, didn't get the Oz rights either... What about Addis Ababa... uppps, that one is through the window as well...

I am not holding my breath on them coming to DC. I did see their "advance" plane a couple of months ago on Apron H when I was touring the airfield, but no one has hinted that it might turn into scheduled air service...and almost all the gates at Dulles are committed.

Qatar is the home of the US military middle east command i believe??

Either way, good selection of destinations for QR there.

They are a fantastic airline, I enjoy flying on them.

I stated earlier the same thing, that Etihad wanted EWR but in the end went to JFK. I am just saying that Qatar has said that they want EWR and I also said they will probably end up at JFK like Etihad.

Not quiet sure of the exact reason but I imagine they realized it was the better airport to serve for the market they wanted to attract. I am sure it also had something to do with Emirates serving JFK and Terminal 4?

For the momemt, I don't think any Scandinavian airport could support two M.E. carriers (either EK/EY/QR that is), but I more and more get the feeling that EK (or the others) will come to MMX before they come to CPH (Cartoons; get over it people). So why not EK at ARN too? But SQ doubtful to be honest; they're only at 3x weekly to CPH; I reckon they'd a least increase this before adding ARN.

I hope so too, and I also think that the carriers themselves are way over it.. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they were thinking about the Arab community when launching a route to CPH, and they would - after all - be more important customers than those on CPH. And they might not have forgotten about it. Plane shortages, crew shortages or whatever, I just think it's puzzling that neither of them has even talked about CPH (apart from EK pulling out), while cities like Stockholm and Venice get a lot of attention. Airports that don't have another single intercon operation have EK flights; CPH has quite a lot intercon, and a big O & D market, yet no attention from any... Maybe it's my heart speaking a bit here! but still I think it's puzzling...

ARN already has Iran Air (plus some irregular charters on Jordanian carriers to Erbil). QR would be number two.

Exactly. CPH has a lot of intercontinental flights already (market saturation), while at many of the other European airports, EK has monopoly for intercontinental flights.

Doesn't really count, does it... but OK CPH has Iran Air, too, and Syrian, and MEA sometimes.. plus (borderline-Arab) PK, but those twice-a-week-in-the-high-season VFR flights have indeed little to do with the market EY/EK/QR are trying to capture.

Quoting RedChili (Reply 68):

True, Turkey and Egypt have taken a big hit, but the Arab countries have never been of interest to Danish tourists. Dubai is getting popular though, and TBH I don't think anybody would care about flying EK/QR/EY if the price and product is right, and that seems to be the case. Even if people don't fancy Arab countries it doesn't matter; 99 out of a 100 QR customers would be transferring at DOH anyway.

That's of course a way of looking at it, and probably also a part of the reason, but.... come on, there are also reasons for, say VCE and ARN not to be intercon players. If you launch any unique product, be it a nonstop air service or whatever, yes, you have a monopoly, and that's of course good for your power in the market - but just not forget that in most cases you have the monopoly because others chose not to.

Good for QR .... they deserve it.
Too bad that GF does not have the resources, management structure, and $$$ to follow EK,QR and EY trends.

GF has a good relationship with AA via LHR, but guess this expansion into the US by others will slowly start to hurt ...

QATAR Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker said that Qatar Airways is to start daily flights from Doha to Tanzania’s business capital Dar es Salaam by next march.
Currently Qatar Airways operates four non-stop flights each week from Doha to Dar es Salam.

The daily flights might be with a widebody aircraft--probably an A300.

In addition the freighter service will be established between DOH and Dar es Salaam.
