A Terrible Tragedy In DFW.

Sun Jan 14, 2007 2:57 pm

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is the injury manager for AA in DFW. Yesterday a fleet service clerk was run over by a push out huff at 22:45. It occured during a heavy rain. The clerk has definately lost his left leg, his right leg is broken in several places, his pelvis is shattered, he has many other internal injuries. Currently the clerk is in a coma at a Dallas Hospital ICU unit. Please keep this airline person in your thoughts and prayers. Cases like this we are not competitors, we are all family.

Oh that's horrible.
What's a huff though? Same as a paymover?

Prayers, for sure.

Yup...paymover...pushback. Seems I read about something happening during push about every 2-3 years....damn. Used to have 4 on a push...one in the tractor...one on headset...2 on wings....then it was 3...then 2...and now some stations have single man pushbacks...didn't get any safer...just cheaper.

God bless him. I know everyone on A.net has him in their thoughts and prayers. It's a terrible thing when decent people befall such tragedy carrying out their jobs.

It's too bad we can't start some kind of donation on here for people like this, and like the ramper who lost a leg when he was ran over by an A319 in DEN some weeks ago. If we could each just give a few dollars with out membership, we could probably do a lot of good for people like this.

This is truly sad.

This is also a reminder to us all that the ramp is the most dangerous place to work in this business. For all the safety training, retraining, procedures and protocols, be in the wrong place at the right time and you can be serious injured or killed. It is also a testament to the professionalism of those people who work there that the injury rate remains relatively low.

While our prayers are with this member of our "family", let us pray also for all those who do this work every day. Let us pray that God watches over them, that he stretches out his hand and touches each and every one of them, so that they mind their surroundings and the other members of the team with whom they work.

We are all praying for him. The DFW Public Safety Department and Operations Department are conducting an investigation. It happened on the Terminal C Ramp.

This is the second AA Ramper to be run over this week, here at DFW. The first accident happened last Tuesday, and that man had one leg broken.

Thoughts and prayers go out to him. My mother moved to Dallas last week as American shut down their Honolulu call center in November. Even though she has 27 years with American, she has a year and a half to go before she reaches her retirement age of 50. Scared me a little to read this headline, but nevertheless it is still tragic.

As a former ramper in DFW for another airline...my thoughts are definitely with him. Reminds you just how dangerous ramp work can be...especially in rough weather.

When the weather turns bad in DFW, like it was yesterday, it gets pretty hairy out there. North Texas weather is almost always one extreme or the other. When it got that way, I used to tell my ramp crew: "Forget on-time, slow down, take your time, and we'll do our best to get as close to on-time as possible...we're not risking the safety of ourselves and the aircraft in this mess".

Hope this guy makes as close to a full recovery as possible and I wish him the best.

You know with all the machinery and movements along with all the noise and sometimes adverse weather - its a wonder there are not more injuries etc on the ramp area. I don't think there could be many places more hostile.

As a service worker for Norwegian Air Shuttle on OSL Oslo Gardermoen, I regularly pass near aircraft and the working ground staff. Hearing about this horrible accident, I will definitely keep my eyes open when I'm on the ramp area.

On behalf of the service and ramp workers here at OSL, I wish him a fast recovery and as few complications as possible from this horrible accident.

I have no idea how to do this. I'll try to figure it out, but if you, or anyone else, have any idea how we can set up an online collection, to help this guy and his family through this tough time, some little deal where we can all toss if a few bucks by paypal or something, I'd appreciate it.

Out of all things to get run over by at the airport other than a plane would probably be a tug (pushback tractor). Considering how heavy they are and how big the wheels are that would make it the worst thing to get run over by.

My thoughts and prayers go out to him. May he have a speedy recovery.

From the Delta DFW ops, our hearts and prayers go out to him and his family, also to all the AA employees who were involved.

Several years back, we lost a great friend and employee who worked at Delta here in DFW in the same situation in CVG. After pushback and disconecting the pushback tug from the a/c...as the agents were walking back the terminal, he got ran over by the Jet Tug. The ramp can be a very dangerous area...lots of movement!

Godspeed!

This is a time when the upper crust needs to say "the buck stops here", and put some of that bonus and stock option money back into the company-so indeed a few more rampers can be hired-and avoid tragedies like this one.

I am all for a donation-tell me where to send it and I will do it....from a legal and compliance perspective, are we permitted to use this forum to instigate any such fund? Heaven knows, while the afflicted is in dire needs of our support and prayers, lest we forget the affect it has on the families.

If anyone is collecting, as noted, I'm in.

Thanks A.netters.

God Bless him and grant him a speedy recovery.

Cheers,
