AI's New Livery!

Tue Jan 16, 2007 1:10 pm

Here's a photo (Due Credit To Matt Cawby) http://farm1.static.flickr.com/165/359012203_a596426389_o.jpg of the first 777-200LR for AI that sports a new livery. IMO it is a great livery especially the tail and the engines that look sharp.

Enjoy!

Wow, it's a pretty nice livery!

Glad to finally see one of their 777-200LRs and can't wait to see them at JFK come this spring!

Let us hope they keep this one.  Wink

Interesting, quite similar to the old livery. Nice that they kept the design where each window has a palace painted around it.

A little too plain for my taste though.

Sharp looking livery on a sharp plane.

Also nice to see they kept the traditional "palace windows"
Some see lines, others see between the lines.

I LOVE it! A great new look for AI.
Rumours were correct that the Centaur would return to the tail.
Can't wait to see her flying into YYZ soon!

As I recall, the last time Air India introduced a new livery, they had to change it back due to public outcry - "give us back our palaces!!". I am glad to see that at least has been kept.

The picture is great, but is it just me or does that 777 look like a much smaller airplane? Maybe a 737?

Excellent - we get a sneak pic of the new AI livery. Kind of surprising that AI has not published a press release etc. on the new livery.

I kind of like this new livery - would be interesting to see how this looks on the 747s and the 310s.

Red Engine, Red underbelly, Red Tail, Red cheat-line, Red "Palace motif around the windows", but what about the nose??? Does it have the red dot as well?

Oh c'mon, Singapore's livery more or less predates turbofan engines.

I think this is a tasteful update on an existing brand image, i find it attractive, even if i don't like the palace windows. It's good to see slightly more bold looking liveries... instead of everyone painting their aircraft like Lufthansa and Air France lookalikes.

Am I the only one who does not see raked wingtips? These are their first new 777s, no? I thought the others were ex BA, UA birds. What was the crack about them not keeping them? Are they have financial difficulties? It would be strange if this were true, as PK the only other airline in possession of the 77L, was reported to be on the verge of collapse. Maybe these birds are bad financial luck.  Wink I'm just kidding, I'm sure they will serve AI well on those long routes. I'm surprised they need an LR for India-JFK. Everyone else seems to run the route fine with a 772ER.

Yeah, they run the routes with a 772ER- a severely weight restricted, too. The 772LR is sorely needed for both payload and range to comfortably operate the flight. It's certainly justified, especially if they plan on flying non-stop to anywhere west of ORD.

I don't see the palaces around the windows at all. Perhaps my eyes are going, or it's just the angle of the plane in the photo.

The use of negative space on the tail is getting to be unimaginative.

I think that the palaces this time around are a bit smaller than they used to be.

The red engines are cool, but the negative space on the tail is awful.

A corporate identity is the commercial visual image that a company projects to its public. It helps in achieving a cohesive and consistent image of the company worldwide.

At Air India, we believe that this visual image must be simple, coherent and most importantly, it must be an honest representation of the ideals we stand for.

After the formation of Air India International in 1948, four Lockheed Constellations were ordered to commence international operations. The management began casting about for a symbol that would denote speed and simultaneously have universal appeal.

Sagittarius, the archer, is the ninth sign of the Zodiac. The Greeks represented this constellation in the act of shooting an arrow. As it symbolises movement and speed, the Centaur, a stylised version of Sagittarius, was selected as Air India's logo.

The Centaur is symbolic of the airline and stands out as a distinct and sole representative of the standards Air India has set for itself.

I like the tail but I feel the fuselage is a bit empty and too white. Maybe they could have retained the existing scheme on the fuselage with a red belly.

Now lets wait for Air India employees to wail in abject despair and mock indignation over the change of their beloved 36 year old livery, go on some kind of go-slow policy (not that much of a stretch for them), and otherwise shed crocodile tears for who knows what.

I still think that JRD Tata's 1971 unveiling of the Palace in the Sky livery on the 747s was the best of its time, but the times have changed, JRD is long gone and so has the once impeccable airline he created.

The new AI livery looks neat. Especially the golden Centaur on the tail and the engines.

Although they have retained the palace windows, it would have been much nicer had they retained the double red lines below and above the row of windows as in their old livery. An example:

Yeah, I'm sure the breast-beating will begin once the images hit the media or AI makes an announcement. I think a new look is long overdue. Bit too plain though.

One little point of criticism: the wavy Indian flag at the front wouldn't have been necessary wavy and seems not to be in one line with the Air India fuselage titles.

Disagree, those 'Taj Mahal' windows make the airline soo distinghuising. I've the impression that they are now more sophistcated designed than the big ones on their 'former' livery.

It was built by Shah Jehan for his favourite wife Mumtaz. He was in the process of building a replica in black marble across the river for himself but was imprisoned in Agra Fort by his son and successor, Aurangzeb.

I think its awesome. They didn´t go for a 100% new livery, which could become a re-branding, but they upgraded the 70s scheme, which was getting quite old and made the aircraft look in their 30´s.

BTW, Nice tail.

Cool livery, even if the Centaur is slipping off the back...!!

Now, all AI have to do to compete with other carriers (specifically the likes of Jet, Air Sahara, Virgin, etc) is to work on their customer services skills and a/c interiors. A drop of paint on the outside can't change what is rotten on the inside!  Big grin

Let's see if they can do it!
