Let the speculation begin!  Smile

I'm going to guess an add-on order, since if they were VIP birds, Boeing Business Jets would have been the customer. Though a few airlines have ordered just a handful, so could be a new customer...

If the 787s are for PIA, then so must the 777s as they have eight, but their recent statement said they would have twelve.

PK is tendering offers for one -200ER and one -300ER...I highly doubt the unidentified order is going to be PK right now, though they should go for the B787-8 down the road........

---------------

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) invites sealed bid(s) for the acquisition of one 777-200ER and one 777-300ER for delivery in the first quarter of 2008.
The offer(s) should be based on the following:

• Proposal for new aircraft for each type on 10 years operating lease with
purchase option and firm purchase price at the 10th year.
• PIA’s required aircraft specifications can be obtained from the Boeing.

The proposal(s) based on the above along with other terms and conditions should reach PIA latest by 1100 Hours (Pakistan Standard Time) on 31st January, 2007 on the following address.

Maybe they increased their tender? The "PIA for 787?" thread has a journalist stating PIA would have 12 777s (in addition to 4 787s) and they currently have 8, so perhaps this journalist knows PIA's next set of orders and calculated that into their statement?

I would speculate that this mystery airline ordering 4 B 787s is Ethiopian Airlines as they mentioned 2 weeks ago of an interest of a similar amount of A 350s or B 787s that needed to be ordered asap to accelerate their intl long haul expansion plans.

I think that journalist is a bit off (seems common lately when it comes to regarding PK)...

Indeed, they may very well be. Just an interesting coincidence that the reporter's statement shows PIA with four more 777s and 787s then they currently have on order and four 777 and four 787 UFO's appear on Boeing's site.

Guess we shall find out soon enough.  thumbsup

Probably this order would prove that I selected an incorrect user-name.

What about NZ. They increased their commitment from 4 to 8 789s late last year however I don't think it showed up in Boeing's orders site. It is also rumored that NZ will be ordering 773ERs this year...

Edit - typo

May be its the mysterious Avianca order every one awaits to be announced. 4 would seem about right for Avianca. Other then Bogota to Europe where do they need a plane with so much range.

Southwest Airlines has ordered these 4 787's. Boeing will see many more orders from them now as they will be investing into the 727 which Boeing is putting back in to production.

And I can't wait to fly the new 727s!!!!

That Southwest livery deffinately does look sharp. I didn't expect it to look good on anything but the 737, bet there's the proof.  Smile
