Air Canada Jazz - Major Computer Failure Today?

Sun Jan 28, 2007 10:33 pm

Good Morning,

I'm here at work @ YHZ today and I've had several passengers come up to me looking to rent vehicles one way to other cities in the region due to cancelled flights. We've had some winter storms here the last day or two so that in itself didn't surprise me, but one passenger told me it was because AC Jazz had a major computer failure and weren't able to dispatch any flights.

I thought that was weird but then I just heard an announcement in the terminal to the effect "Our partner Air Canada Jazz has had a computer failure and had cancelled some flights. Bus transportation will be available. Please go to the arrivals area."

AFAIK a Charlottetown (YYG), Sydney (YQY) and Boston (BOS) flight have gone sour.

What's going on?

This is taken from the Air Canada website:

Travel advisory - Air Canada Jazz advises Jazz Flights impacted by computer difficulties

HALIFAX, January 28, 2007 -- Air Canada Jazz advises customers that there will be a limited number of cancellations and some delays to Jazz flights for the remainder of the day as a result of difficulties with its computer system earlier today. Air Canada flights are not affected.

It is recommended that customers traveling today on Jazz flights (AC7650 to AC8999) check on the status of their flight prior to leaving for the airport by consulting the Air Canada website at aircanada.com, or by calling Air Canada's automated flight information system at 1-888-422-7533, or by using a web-enhanced cell phone.

Customers with flights impacted today wishing to make alternative travel arrangements can do so without penalty, space permitting, through Air Canada Reservations at 1-888-247-2262; TTY: 1-800-361-8071.

Jazz apologizes to customers for any inconvenience.

Didn't the exact same thing happen to Jazz a few months ago? That time it was much more severe than this one, and many more of their flights were canceled. Seems to me like ACJ has a problem with its computer system.

One could say the same about Westjet in a different vein.
