Volaris To Triple Revenues In 07. Will Add 12 Rts.

Tue Jan 30, 2007 12:18 pm

MEXICO CITY, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Volaris, the Mexican discount airline owned by billionaire Carlos Slim and media giant Televisa, said on Monday it will add a dozen new routes and triple revenues this year.

One of six discount airlines in Mexico to launch services in the past year, Volaris said that with the new routes, it will serve 14 new cities, including the Los Cabos resort in northern Mexico and the colonial city of Merida in the Southeast.

"In 2006 we had revenues of $100 million, and for 2007 we expect to grow to $300 million," Chairman Pedro Aspe told reporters, adding that passengers should also triple to about 3 million.

No, not yet. The other part of the article said no international destinations planned for the first 3 years. I'll try to find out.

Now.....if they only added a FF program, that bi-weekly RT I take with them would be a lot more interesting.

US$100M in just one year of operations? Not bad. But what about profits? I know they are not expecting to return any dividend to shareholders for the first 4 years, but, I just wonder how big their expenses are, esp MKT-related expenses. Anyway, it is good news they are expanding and offering low rates for cities previously neglected from them (AGU, CUL, BJX and SJD).

All airlines have got into a big commercial battle never seen or heard before.
It was common for them to appear once in a while in newspapers or TV. Since the incoming of all new airlines, makt agencies and media must be very happy:

VivaAerobus with radio ads every 2 minutes, both Aviacsa and AM with larger and larger ads at El Norte. Volaris with huge billboards all over the city. Even Aerocalifornia has invested notoriously in radio to informe about their their sole MTY flight. Aeromar is constatantly publishing in printed version of El Norte how "convenient" and "cheap" is to fly with them.

On the other hand, big news to come from Alma (C4) as soon as they announce they will have 20a/c by the end of the year. Lots of new routes and destinations never expected before.

Aladia's top managment is currently looking for more a/c in Britain and California. Hope they are doing well by know.
Next flight: IAH-DBX-MRU-ANT
